Pete - Great times, congratulations. That's one hell of a stock block LT5. I've always wondered what the ZR1 could do while keeping the stock block, and displacement.
From your discription of the mods, it seemed to me like the car is set up more for racing on the street, from a roll, than a hardcore drag car. But that dream top end that you've built begs for the rest of the car to be tuned to the same level. You say your best e.t. last year was 11.35 Do you think it could dip into the tens without losing its highway driveability? You mentioned "front runners". They would probably be good for a tenth. More tire, and a shorter gear, would bring your 60ft. time down into the low 1.60's giving at least another tenth and 1/2 - to two tenths. That means you would be banging on the tens with a stock block ZR1, amazing. A little stock block 350, way ahead of most of the 427 lightweight C6 ZO6's I love to see one of our cars show the flag against the "latest and greatest". Keep up the great work. |

Greybeard,i thought about 10's and here is my conclusion. When i ran 11.35 it was 1.69 60ft. I know for every .10 off the 60ft is worth about .167 at the end so if front runners are worth a tenth at the end of the 1/4 that would've put me at 11.25 with the same 1.69 60ft now if every tenth at 60ft is worth .167 at the end then i would need to get a 1.50 60ft to dip in the 10's With my 3.45 gears a 1.50 60ft may not be possible, but i will try. ![]() The other thoughts i have is 1.find another 10-15RWHP then i might be able to do it with a slower then 1.50 60ft 2.minus 100lbs from the car(carbon hood,Laxen rear glass) 3.do both I prefer #1 only I do have some ideas to get a little extra power. I hear a vacuum pump is worth 5-10 RWHP hope it works,i will find out. The car drives like a stocker except for the slight rumble from the cams. When driving home from the track it was in 6th gear at 60-65MPH cruising at around 1500RPM with no issues. It makes plenty low end torque,on street radials 1st & 2nd are useless. Pete

Yup, weight is definitely a drawback with the Z. If your car weighed what a new C6 ZO6 did, you'd be very close to the tens right now.
As you probably know, Marc H. has a list of gimmicks to drop some weight on the Z. Have you done that stuff? It would be fun to have a car like the old 2,900 lb. "Snakeskinner", and drop your 350 into it. A definite high 10 sec. car all day long. I clipped off the mufflers, (same B&B setup you have), like Haibeck does, and gained trap speed , and cut E.T. on my stock motor car. |
