Re: Dreaded Upper Cam Chain Guide Failure
Thank you for your contributions. I have three questions:
If you don't mind me asking, what did you have the cam covers off for?
What do you think causes the wear strip to fail?
What is your...

Re: Dreaded Upper Cam Chain Guide Failure
The only way I know to test oil pressure is to put the whole thing back together, hook a test gauge up, and start the engine. I'm not opposed to doing that but at this point it has been suggested to...

Re: Advice for liners?
Just a novice $.02
If you can accomplish that task without damaging anything, it doesn't sound like a bad idea. Resealing would be better than putting the entire engine back together just to find...

I do own a fairly decent flexible endoscope and I actually did find what I believe to be the largest pieces of both facings...

Re: Dreaded Upper Cam Chain Guide Failure
I've got the battery disconnected at the moment, but if memory serves correctly the odometer reads around 162,000 mi. A prior owner had the engine gone though by Marc at around 124,000 mi some time...

Re: Dreaded Upper Cam Chain Guide Failure
I finally managed to get the driver's side cam cover off after removing the brake booster.
If anybody is curious, the solution to the brake booster removal was ultimately removing some of the...

Re: Dreaded Upper Cam Chain Guide Failure
There have been no unusual noises. I simply discovered the steel in the oil during a routine oil change. I know it sounds crazy, but there were zero "symptoms" leading up to this discovery.

Re: 90' Intermittent power - Spark problem
From what I gather, you say that the spark on #5 looks/sounds like it's more frequent than any of the adjacent cylinders at any given RPM, and provides no change to RPM when unhooked?
That coupled...

Dreaded Upper Cam Chain Guide Failure
Last time I did my yearly oil change (a couple months after the pandemic hit,) I discovered steel glitter in the oil. I parked the car, set it up for hibernation, and haven't driven it since (except...

Re: Mileage
Can't turn the ignition on right now to check. Haven't driven it in quite a while. Last time I looked, I think it was nearing 170,000mi. Marc went through the engine at around 124k, so does it still...

Re: Infinity Lube
The info in the advertisement sheet says "900 degree flash point." At the bottom in the fine print it says "believed to be accurate at time of issue."
MSDS says 270 degree flash point.

Re: LT5-Powered 1958 Corvette Restomod
Aside from the horrendous headlights, they got rid of two of the '58s most defining features, the tail lights and the sail exit exhaust. I understand the want for restomodding (fuel injection, newer...

Re: Road&Track June 1990 - Mid-Engine ZR-1
I believe they started on the Indy (Later called the CERVIII) in 1986.
I personally think the Indy/CERVIII was a better looking car than this Bertone concept.
I've read that one of the...

Re: Corvette to become it's own "brand"
Aside from the original subject of the article, Sean Tucker needs to rethink his job as an author. Zora did not draw up, design, or create in any way- the original Corvette. This extreme flaw in the...

Re: 92 Tire Tube - How Much Weight Can It Hold ?
It can carry more than 30lbs... keep in mind it was indended to carry a front tire and wheel (Or just any regular tire and wheel on a non-ZR-1 C4.) This is why the "tracks" in the sides of the spare...

Re: Which coil pack do you have?
My '92 had what appeared to be an original set when I replaced my injectors in '17. They all had cracked housings. I put MSD's in and so far haven't had any problems. After seeing this thread, I...

Yeah this sounds like BS marketing. I know it's not a ZR-1, but I've got an '87 Mazda RX-7 ECU with over 230k miles on it that still works like it was new.

I doubt they'd waste the paper. If they do archive any data from a dyno test, it would likely be stored on a database.

Re: LT6 dyno runs
Seems highly doubtful.
These initial dyno runs are more for an internal final inspection and initial run-in, not for power output 'records.' They already know what the engine is supposed to make;...
