Default Porting intakes: Stage I interest?

I have done 5 intakes now, I currently am doing them on an exchange basis for $700.00. The $700 is for full intake porting to 36MM. I know that porting is not cheap, and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a stage I package for $500.00. This would focus on the primary runners only and I would open them to approx 35MM, eliminating the primary injector boss, etc. and opening the IH were it meets the head to match Jerry's gasket. The plenum would be opened on the primary runners as well.

Let me know your thoughts.

My two cents, but I suspect if someone was going to go through the hassle of removing their plenum and injector housings, packing them up, and shipping them out, then $200 worth of porting saved wouldn't be worth it.

You must be a glutton for punishment, my good friend. I guess I missed or didn't see the fun of aluminum splinters that got down in my gloves...and SOCKS! But, if ya wanna have some fun, try porting some heads. (I've 'bout worn out a snap gauge, and that ain't easy!)

How-some-ever, I think Aurora40 has a point. But, then again... Haveta try it and see. Some dyno #'s might shed some light on the unknown; just what would the performance curves look like? But, if the idea doesn't sell, you can move onto "phase-II" pretty easy.

What "stage" wouldja call this? (That's 37mm gauge in that thar head.)

have you considered doing a porting setup thats like the one rick hipsher did . where the divider in the plenum is taken out and then blended into seperate ports in the injector housings. if so what would that cost be .?

Can't really see the logic in this either. Someone willing to accept a incomplete job just to save a few bucks probably shouldn't own a ZR-1. Personally I'd have a hard time doing a partial job for someone, just knowing that I didn't give it my all would really bug me.

How about a winter special for the 36mm for $500

The largest restriction is the primary runner, as you know the ports into the heads can be as small as 31mm. The primary is also blocked by a fairly large injector boss. The secondary runner opens up at 36mm at the head.

Testing would probably be prudent to check the result vs stock and vs a 35-36mm ported plenum.

I see what you are saying and I'd agree that you'd get very substancial gains from just hitting the big problem areas, probably within 80-90% of a full port job. Just seems wrong to me to not go for 100% after going through all the trouble and expense of disassemby/ reassembly/shipping/new gaskets/etc.
