Our first LT5 pull = no problems - ZR-1 Net Registry Forums

With Lee's help, starting at 8:15 this morning, we rookies managed to have my LT5 pulled in under 7 hours - not bad for first timers, methinks. Nuttin' to it, really. Having new LT headers made is a breeze getting the exhaust off, and the rest went very well.

As far as being able to detect anything with my #8, we couldn't see anything wrong. However, there was evidence of coolant seeping in at 3 cylinders; two adjacent to the water jacket hole at the IH/head junction. I understand Dom had some trouble with that as well. I was using Jerry's gaskets, but that alone does not seem to always be a given. I'm thinking some of that contact cement gasket adhesive around the water port might help. Suggestions?

hotter than hell today....95 degrees. Had a good time, actually surprised at how easy it was...... the 7hrs included a run to the store for a Oil line wrench for Paul, which added an hour.

Tell you what when Paul says he is south of 80, he ain't shittin........his place is not even on the map.

No telling how long it would have taken had Lee not been there - I owe him a big un now!

As you can see in the pics Paul only let me remove 1 ground wire and the wiper motor cover.

The engine actually came out easier than an L98, we left the hood on with plently of clearance and no issues.

Its a big damn motor!

Very familiar sight! Doesn't look as bad as mine. My problem was primarily #4 primary runner and also #3 primary. Leak between IH/Head interface.
Switching from Flat Out gaskets and on Jerry's suggestion, I used his thin gaskets and I applied head shellac just in the area of the leak. Knock on wood, so far its holding fine.
Car would run fine but then I would come to a stop and motor would run rough. I would see wisps of white smoke even in warmer weather. This all started a week after installing the Mflows with the Xpipe. Prior to that, gasket had been fine for 5+months. Don't know if there is a correlation but it was curious.

Yep, I leave the hood on. But that car was being stripped. So off everything came.
