Here's a data point that might be of interest to some. I took my Z for Maryland Emissions Certification today. The results were as follows:
Hydrocarbons (HC) Carbon Monoxide (CO) MD State Standard: 220 PPM 1.20 PCT Inspection Reading: 121 PPM .00 PCT My car has new injectors, stock thermostat, wires and coil packs; Watson headers (with stock air pump and tubes intack), RT bullet cats, Corsa exhaust, Marc Haibeck's top end package, and a dyno tune. I also kept my stock dual mass flywheel. The car makes 420rwhp and 370 ftlbs of torque at 5200 RPM. |

Great to hear you got the Z past the MD Smog Nazis with margin to spare. Did they give it thorough visual inspection checking to make sure all the emission equipment was still installed? Also, fill us in on how the Z runs now since you got it back from Marc's shop. 420 hp at he wheels is most impressive. How does it register on the SOTHP dyno compared to before you sent it out west? Inquiring minds just have to know. |

that seems really low for peak power to me. epically with headers and top end work

They crawled all over it. It was hard to tell if they were looking for something to fail it or if they just liked the car. I'm thinking both. They looked under the car for cats with mirrors and could clearly see the headers. They checked the gas tank filler tube and popped the hood. It wasn't until they popped the hood did I get a smile out of them. As far as the SOTP dyno, the before/after rwhp delta was a plus 50 hp. Keep in mind my before included headers so the 50 hp is top end machine work. The good news is I could clearly feel 50 rwhp. The bad news is you get used to it pretty quickly. The big SOTPs difference is torque. It is much stronger from the time you let the clutch out until you let off the gas. The bottom line is I got Marc's 500 hp top-end package without the Fidanza flywheel. This kind of performance from 350 naturally aspirated cubes is pretty impressive. I'm very pleased. |

![]() Scott, sounds great! So the 50hp is only on the butt dyno? You don't know what it was making before he worked on it? I was curious since you had that Extrude Hone work done to it. However, your emissions results don't give me confidence... The VA standard is closer to 40-55 PPM for HC's @ 15/25mph. Hopefully my car will come in under that, but we'll see I guess. |

The 50hp was the result of Marc's work. I was pulling a bit more than 370 rwhp before taking it to Chicago. At that time I was stock with the Watson headers, B&B Triflow exhaust, and SW X-pipe. You saw the Extrude Hone work when we changed out my injectors. It didn't appear to have moved much metal. I probably should have driven the car farther and harder prior to the test. I pulled it out of the garage after sitting for a week, drove about 8 miles, and had it tested. I too would have liked to have seen lower HC numbers but hey, I'll take it. |

Congratulations. Nice numbers.
I am surprised to hear that they did visual inspection under your car and under the hood. They have never done that up here in Carroll County. It is interesting that they inspected but didn't notice the missing parts. Did you get the top end powder coated while it was apart? It is good to hear you are pleased with the result. Jim |

Anyway, 420whp is awesome, especially without the flywheel being done (and without having a bunch of resonance!) Since we're talking dyno's now (sorry for the hijack though), you had alluded to comparing the B&B w/ x-pipe to the Corsa's you now have, saying the Corsa's made more power. Did you have Marc dyno it prior to the exhaust swap? I'm sure driving it harder prior to the test would help. I still have about 9 months or so before I've got to take mine, but hopefully it'll sneak in under the limit. ![]() |

But either his dyno reads higher than most, or he miraculously has only worked on the "factory freak" cars that make crazy power from stock heads. |
