So, after a few months of driving my 07 vert, I got in the trusty beast for a few miles of fun. One thing I noticed is that when I engage the clutch, I can definately "hear" the drivetrain. I don't think anything is wrong, but I thought I would ask if anyone else notices this after driving a C6.
Car is a 1994 with 13,700 on the clock. Thanks, Rick L. |

I've never driven a c6 but I know my 90 is quite loud and I love it that way

The C6 does not use U-joints. So it will definitely be quieter.

A little clunking is pretty much normal; particularly noticeable if you drag the clutch a little.

I really can tell the difference between my "black label" ZF6 in my 90 Z and the "blue label ZF6 in my (past) '95 in terms of overall noise. The Blue L was considerably quieter, especially in first gear. But, "clunky? No (aside from what I would consider normal gear lash).

Very tight, actually. Im surprised this thing isnt full of slop considering the miles. Guess I got lucky.

"Clunky" no, but do pick up a bit of gear whine particularly in first gear (MY90 and using Castrol Syn from BMW) I also own a C6... 15 years of chassis and engine/tranny improvements are there in MOST cases. With the tranny in the rear, no U joints, and better noise isolation a much much quieter car... now here is the MOST part>>> (1) under hard accceleration you can get a gear shifter rattle in particular with a SS and (2) due to length of linkage from shifter to tranny the C6 (and C5) setup is not as..well smooth snick snick easy shifting as the ZF (yea I know 'snick' is a real technical term

Rick,
I don't think it's "clunky"....or at least that's not the word I would use to describe a Z's drivetrain....esp the trans. I just got a DD after three yrs of having my Z as my only car....DD is a 5spd manual trans but in an 08 mod yr car. If I had to describe a ZR-1 to someone now I would have to use words like "mechanical", "high efforts at low speeds...effortless at very high speeds", the trans is decidedly "crash box" material...it reminds me of the M22 in my LT-1....can of rocks....and now I realize just how "mechanically exact" it is when you move the gear lever...comparred to my 08's gear lever.....I would never have realized any of this if I had never gotten the DD. I think I was getting too used to driving my Z all the time and lost sight of just how good these cars actually are....now when I get in the Z it really does feel like I'm in a race car vs a street car.
