Default A word or two of thanks!

Hi to all-
I'm cross posting this to both the ZR-1 Registry and to the Corvette Forum ZR-1 Discussion. I don't post much, but I read both lists daily. I bought my dream car a 1992 Yellow ZR-1 #031 last July. My cousin owned it, said he was going to sell it, and I had always wanted one. Through his neglect there were problems. It needed tires, all 4 shocks, 2 acctuators although I replaced all 4 (the selective ride had never worked since he bought it in 2001, he said it didn't need it) ahh... BS! Then the AC pump went, then the water pump. Next to go was the Alternator followed shortly by the belt tensioner. Did I mention that my cousin is the chief mechanic for the State of Alaska Central Region Department of transpotation. =D> I haven't worked on cars for a long time. I've owned and wrenched on a lot of performance cars but the last one was in the 80's. Thanks to these two lists I have been able to fix ALL of the problems that have cropped up, including the driver side Bose amp replacement today. All is to be expected when a car like this is neglected. That won't happen while I own her. I have her up on a pedestal... I have to, I'm changing the oil, transmission oil and differential lube tomorrow. Once again Thank you all for the silent knowledge and courage to do this. I am having the time of my life!

Cool Re: A word or two of thanks!

Hello Richard and welcome to the forum.

It is always great to hear when a ZR-1 is rescued from an owner who does not take care of it and goes to someone such as yourself.

Thanks for the welcomes. Dave did use Mobil 1 oil fortunately. Based upon reserch here, there and everywhere: For the engine I'm using Mobil 1 5W30 Extended Performance oil, Mobil 1 M207 Extended Performance filter, I change the filter at each oil chage (3000 miles) Somewhere I read you could change the filer every other time, although I don't know why you'd want to. BMW Castrol TWS 10W60 for the transmission, and Mobil 1 75W90 Gear Lube, and although not technically required (from the bottle and Mobil 1 website instructions) a 4 oz bottle of GM Limited Slip Differential Additve for the rear end. The gear lube bottle says you can and I don't think it will hurt.

I do have a question. Has anyone traced a non functioning Cigarette Lighter? I have checked the fuses, all are good. I haven't pulled the center console yet. Is that the next step? I don't smoke but I need the power for the GTech Pro rr.

Be sure that you checked both fuse boxes . There is one fuse box under the passenger's side hush panel.

I did check both of the fuse panels. My guess is that I'll have to pull the console and trace the wiring.

Have you checked to see if the lighter works in another car. If not it is the element and you should be able to replace just that. Of course if it does work in another car, the fun begins.
Never mind.
