Default Question on Sound Deadening Material for Interior

Hi, I'm in the process of covering plastic interior trim pieces in Nappa leather.
I want to cover the underside of the pieces in Dynamat or like product. Anybody see any kind of issue with doing so,clearance, fitment ? So far i have the windshield header, A pillar, B pillar, Halo, and the 3 rear cargo pieces wrapped. They look great and feel so much better. LMK Thanks Ricky

Sorry I see this is in the WRONG section, MODS, Please move Thank You

I used Dynamat for the floor areas behind the seats in the '93 ZR-1 and in my 2016 C7 Z06. I believe there was some improvement but not a huge amount. It is hard to overcome the noise our wide HP tires make on pavement. I have some pictures of what I did to the Z06. While I don't have pics of the ZR-1 work, they are essentially the same. Rather than do all the work myself on the Z06 (I am an old man), I took it to the nearby audio installation shop for Best Buy, who take apart interiors for a living. They did the work in 2016 for $100 as I recall, although I am sure it would be more now. But better than me doing it. --Bob.

What is your goal? less rattle type noise or to quiet the interior.. the deadening will help eliminate the sounds from vibration and rattling, it may help with sound but that is not it's main purpose. you will want closed Cell foam or other products to help quiet the noise down if that is your goal

Hey Ricki,

I haven't tried what you are describing so can't say for sure but most likely, as long as you stay with thin sound proofing material (I thinkk 1/8" or less?), should be ok. For A pillar, B pillar halo, and rear cargo area deck, keep overlapping portions free of underlayment.
I bet these pieces covered in Napa leather looks fabulous.
Hope you come to Carlisle so that I can check it out.

These work really well. Exhaust has a nice mellow note with little to no drone.

Ha Ha Dominic--Earplugs are a great idea. I still have a set that dates back to going to the Indy 500 in--wait for it--1971. (The one in which the Pace Car crashed into the photographers' stand in pit lane). The only time I currently use them is if we go to a movie theater because they seem to turn up the volume so much. Even being hard of hearing isn't enough to make it fun. --Bob

As Jeff said, it would really depend on your goal. Wrapping the back side of the specific pieces you've mentioned would require a very thing material similar to Dynamat. However I'm not sure any results of doing that would provide you with any noticeable effect. But again, it would really depend on your goals.

I think even thin product would reduce buzzing noise if a particular piece was buzzing. I applied 1/8? thick foil product on the transmission tunnel under the car and it reduced heat coming through substantially. Might have reduced the road noise a bit but not very noticeable since I didn?t do the entire floor.

Yes Jeff, my goal is to limit the rattling from the cheap plastic. I would also like to have the door sound so much better when closing. I love the sound of the engine I never have the radio on. I drive at high RPM's than most so im always in the sweet spot. Another benefit of the leather is that it looks and feels sooo much better. Lower dash hush panels are next then onto the door panels in black leather & Alcantar with red stitching.
