Default Correct headliner material & source?

The headliner of my painted top starts hanging loose in some sections so I intent to renew it.
I'm pretty experienced in re-doing headliners as I e.g. already renewed the whole material that's glued onto the hard shell headliner of my 88 Caprice Brougham with - I'm proud to say - perfect results.
So my plan is to re-do the targa top myself but make sure to have a 100% correct and durable material. Where can I find it?

When it came time to do mine I used foam backed Alcantara material from a seller off eBay. Turned out very nice. Installed with 3M super heavy duty spray weather strip glue.

Some of the big venders sell a drop in replacement unit OR you can buy material off ebay or amazon as Phil said. I used the foam backed headliner material on my 99' FRC last summer and permatex headliner specific spray adhesive. Looks like new now.

You can get that foam backed headliner fabric from numerous sources, and like everything else, just depends on how much money you want to spend on something like that, something you will never notice or really look at again. Jo-Ann Fabrics for example has it, as does Walmart, and it's all pretty much the same, except for the embossed and fancy stuff. I replaced mine for about $35 including the spray-on fabric contact adhesive and it looks great.

Thanks for the answers. Alcantara of course is a very nice looking alternative, I love this material (headliner of my A6 Allroad is made of it).
But for my ZR I'm looking for the exact same look and feel as what GM installed back in the days. Drop in replacement sounds good, I'll check the usual suspects and see what they offer. Thanks!

With the dipped interior popularity, I wonder how a liner color matched to the carpet and doors would look.. I guess it would require a custom upholster to do. I only thought of it because I remember old mid years having dipped interiors compared to our interiors.

I would think any color headliner other than black would be too distracting to driving.

What's a "dipped interior"?

Too bad these are not still available. I am sure glad I got one when they came out. Was this a Robert DeMarco innovation? I do not know what material, but it is very nice and I sure do like looking up at it. Of course not for the NCRS guys. 🤙🏼

The new Z06 coming out has it as an option. Basically the whole interior looks dipped in a color. Not for everyone. I think it is nice.
