Broken upper mounting bolt rear shocks
Sheared off head of one of the two upper mounting bolts trying to remove to inspect rear actuator function. Any suggestions on how to remove bolt? Easy out kit? Other?
Many thanks, Scott Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry

Re: Broken upper mounting bolt rear shocks
Well I actually got it out using an extractor kit and drilling. Was able to back it out enough to grab it with vise grip pliers and slowly back it out. All afternoon process.

What are your plans to get a nut up there to put the bolt back? I will be doing coilovers soon and hoping no issues. Glad to see you got it out okay. Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry

Re: Broken upper mounting bolt rear shocks
Fortunately I was able to drill into the bolt after many attempts and it spun out enough for me to grab each side and turn it counterclockwise to back it completely out w/o damaging the welded nut above the hole. I then replaced with M8 nut per M. Haibeck suggestion and it screwed right in no issues. As your indicating there is zero access to that nut as it?s completely enclosed by a rectangular metal frame. M Haibeck states he often drills a small hole next to where the bolt is at on that frame to spray rust buster prior to removing upper mounting bolt to prevent what happened to me. Apparently he has a way to weld a nut in that space but it is a prolonged time consuming event as he related to me.

Re: Broken upper mounting bolt rear shocks
BTW Im pretty sure it was you who had a post about wheel stud guides to assist with putting wheels back on ZR-1. THANK YOU. Its one of the best tools that I have to get those freakin heavy wheels back on without damaging the rotor assembly and most importantly my back.

Good news. Thanks for sharing. I thought the welded nut was done. What a relief for you. I can imagine how difficult it would be to get a nut welded in there. Good job on this. Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry
