My starter bit the dust. I have the plenum pulled (that was fun!!!) and I'm trying to find a new, not reman, starter for under $200. Does anyone know where I can find one? Nopi racing doesn't show a new, or reman for $112 (Bosch). Can anyone help?

Success!!!!! The beast is back! After three hours on starter installation and putting everything back where it's supposed to be ( I hope. No extra parts or things unplugged) #1239 is back in business. Apparently on first start up, I had drained some anti freeze into the motor and it smoked white for about five minutes. I was worried at first but then it went away. Another curious thing happened: My motor burns some oil and there was always a small hint of smoke from the exhaust prior to my plenum pull. I don't know what I did different, but the smoking has appeared to go away. I'll have to watch the oil consumption over the next few weeks to see if there are any changes. What could cause this if only a plenum pull is performed? Thanks for all of your guys' inputs on this thread, as well as others I've used. I'm not that mechanically inclined but I figure why pay labor to a guy who's never worked on a Z when I can save the $$ (for gas) and do it myself.

All I did was reconnect the PCV valves. It felt pretty loose so I may have to use a zip tie to keep in place. Whatever I did, it worked.

Hey Crazy
Did you replace any gaskets? Maybe an old one was leaking. Ted |

I re-used the existing gaskets. Maybe everything is just a little bit tighter under and around the plenum.

did you have an idle (high) problem before you pulled the plenum? Im thinking that your fix on the pvc line caused the engine to have a better seal and suck less oil into the plenum. I could be wrong its just a thought
