Chev. C-4 ZR-1 vs HD VRSCA
101418 ZR1&V-Rod (3).jpg
The weather was nice here today (mid 50's w/sun) so decided to pull out the ZR & V-Rod to blow out the cobwebs. As I was out enjoying the experience of the Z, I had a thought that was new to me. Seems there are a lot of similarities between these two excellent machines. Both were built by iconic companies in the USA. Chevrolet, Harley Davidson, add Apple Pie and you can't get anymore American !! Both used outside sources to aid in engine development. Lotus / Porsche. Both are a radical departure from the norm of Chevrolet & Harley Davidson. Both are high reving engines. 7000 rpm & 9000 rpm redlines respectively. Both are DOHC. I believe a first for both companies. Both have top speeds in the same range. Both were developed to exceed anything available from an American company at the time. Both are worth less than half what they cost new. A bummer, but it is OK. Both are an absolute pleasure to drive. Both don't get recognition for what they are from most people you run into. Typical conversations: "Nice Corvette". "It's a ZR-1", "What's that?" // "What brand is your motorcycle?", "Harley Davidson", "Doesn't look like a Harley Davidson!". I generally just smile and think "You don't have a clue what you're missing !!". Just thought I'd share. Thought it was pretty cool. |

I had an 02 Vrod for about 4 years. Put 35k miles on it. I loved it. Too bad they did not make a touring version of it. I did run it to redline in 4th once. It was near 140 mph. The wind was incredible. Much more relaxing in the Z.
