Starter up grade?
my starter seems a little slow when i'am Drag Racing between rounds. What
should i check for optimum performance from my starter? Can the starter in the ZR-1 be upgraded for more torque? My compression is 12 to 1. John 1990 #2546 white/black one of a few auto (4l80E) eq ZR-1's |

Starter up grade?
One thing is make sure your battery is fully charged for max starter torque.
Second......install the starter relay For direct current between Battery and Starter Solenoid for maximum starter solenoid pressure/closing velocity Third......Clean starter contacts on starter and on battery. Last.......Clean points internal to starter solenoid......something that effects most starter issues. Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry

Re: Starter up grade?
Have you ever done the contacts, plunger etc? Is it original? How many miles?
I believe you contact these people for a conversation. The USA link provided no contact but the UK displayed what seemed to be "global' contacts. Poke around their website maybe a little. http://www.wosperformance.co.uk/stockists/wosp-uk/ Tell them you have a 1.4KW currently thought to be a 128000-8280 'denso. They should be able I'd think to help you from there. Last edited by WVZR-1; 01-01-2018 at 06:31 PM. |

Re: Starter up grade?
Thanks for the replies.
Starter was rebuilt about 4 months ago. At that time i added a relay next to the started in the valley. I also wired a switch directly to the starter relay, which goes directly to the starter. Car will start in any gear (auto 4l80E ) only used when drag racing. Gear selector is placed in neutral so i don't have to shift to park. The battery is located in the pass side compartment , i was thinking about running a neg cable (same size as the positive) from the battery to the motor. I will do #3 and last item when i have time. only have one more race this weekend before i sent my 5-point harness out for re-certification ( has to be done every two years) My Battery is connected to a battery tender when car is not in use. The car has a little over 135000 miles at this time. Starter has about 1000 since starter was reinstalled. John 1990 ZR-1 # 2546 one of a few Auto (4l80E) eq ZR-1's |
