This confirms for me that these shows are made by dumbsh*ts that don’t know what they are doing. Maybe we can get hold of the motor they pulled.

Maybe the new owner wanted a motor that was easier to get stuff for.. if you saw what came out of the exhaust, you would realize that the motor would have needed to be gone through. I have not finished watching the episode yet. Maybe one of you should reach out to them and see where the motor went.

Jeff,

Didn’t they go thru the rest of the car? U r being too kind. Color me skeptical of these whiz bang restorer customizer guys on TV. They didn’t know what to do w
LT5 and so stuck in an LT or LSx crate motor w painted Tupperware.

Dunno, I have not finished the episode yet. But I did see all the water and crap that came out of the exhaust. I know these tv shows are just that, but at the end of the day, whose final decision was it to swap? We truly will never know.

You also have to remember, not everyone wants the LT5. While it is a great looking motor, I am still concerned on the lack of electronic components for it. 2 components could make our motors boat anchors. Yes you have the almost 3k option for an ECM and currently no option for ignition module.

If I were looking today, I would think twice honestly, end of the day these motors are 30 year old tech.. they still run good and can make power, but time moves on and thing improve. When that car was built with the LT5 at that time it was exotic... today is all about bench racing I feel. Here is this cool twin turbo car that makes stupid power, just for bragging rights

Car was homely before and now it’s pretty much the same.

Despite our love for the LT5, You can make a good case for pulling it. Simple power to weight ratio comparison for one reason. Who is pulling 1,200hp out of a streetable LT5? Nobody.
Parts availability another.
The main reason is that these are NOT hot Rodders, or motor guys to begin with. It was a show car, not a runner. That alone gets no respect from me. It wasn’t ever even set up to run, and they admitted it.
Aesthetics aside, it was that insult about pulling the “old LT5” that burned me.
When it’s finished, it’s possible a well set up ZR-1, or ZR1 could still blow that well polished turd into the weeds.

I’m with you Bob. For these guys to not demonstrate an appreciation of what the LT5 was and still is, tells me they’re jokers.
