Default The evil oil cooler hoses issue...

Our hoses are leaking where they connect into the oil cooler. Can anyone suggest the best place to buy the replacements?

Comon problem. Go to Chevrolet or maybe White Racing Product's has them in stock.
Note : The new lines have a smaller O.D. The inside diameter is the same.

Also the new lines are a rough silver/grey, not painted black, on either end. They are NLA from GM, though.

LeoLily, the leak is at the block that attaches to the oil cooler? Ya know the terminal block that has the bolt thru it?? If the oil is running down the side of the cooler then the two O-rings are at fault. They might still be ava from GM, o-ring P/N = 10135642, need two.

If the rubber/metal crimps are leaking then yea it's the hose assembly. Any truck/heavy equipment shop should be able to put you on to a hydraulic hose rebuilder and they could proly make up a set for you.

LeoLily, Something else I thought is that the O-rings sit in two grooves in the block around each metal pipe. The pipes protrude past the block & insert into the oil cooler holes by about 3/4". The pipes looked to be welded in place on the outside surface of the block....if I remember correctly!

I'm thinking that your bolt maybe just loose or the welds maybe cracked??? Diagnostics would be a bit tough just by eye. Maybe wipe down the area very well & run the motor & see if a tissue test could tell you if the oil is coming from under the block which would mean the O-rings or a loose bolt. If the oil is running off of the block and then down the side of the cooler then I would suspect the welds. I use a bit of paper towel to check the area around fittings for leaks as even if the leak is small the paper towel will wick up spillage at once.

Thanks again! We will try that this weekend and see what's up. We are in the process of re-charging the battery right now;Jeff was in MO for 3 weeks and the battery died before we got around to firing up the car 'cuz of the cold spells. Hopefully all will work out!
