Hello to a new forum
Hello ZR1.net
I see that there is no new member area so i guess i will make my 1st post it in the general posting. Im Tom. Love cars Love modding cars Work as a technician at the local Subaru dealer I have been a Subaru guy my whole life and still will be. Cant live without AWD and Flat 4 motors. Current rides: 1993 Subaru legacy SS/Turbo AT stock 1993 Subaru Legacy SS/Turbo MT modded to NO end Past rides: 1993 Chevy Lumina 3.1L AT 2006 Pontiac G6 3.5L AT I have modded my 1993 Subaru Legacy SS/Turbo basically as fair as i want it to be. Here are some of the mods: JDM STi ver 3 ECM/PCM from rob tune Garrett GT2860RS turbo 550CC yellow top STi injectors AWIC/ Air to Water intercooler TBE/ Turbo back exhaust, No mufflers no cats just tips 4/2Pot brake conversion 4.11 Gear swap 5MT swap with LSD rear diff Lowering springs and KYB GR2 struts Thats just some of the mods on the car..... Its a TOTAL sleeper. Looks like a Honda Accord but with like 280whp and 320wtq and of coarse AWD. Might post something about it if someone has interest. But thats not WHY im on a ZR-1 forum! Im highly considering buying a 90-95 ZR-1. I have been poking around the internet for cool 90's sports cars and the ZR-1 is NEVER on anyone's radar! I mean i would like a Porsche or Ferrari but for the money...the ZR-1 destroys them all! I dont care about the name on the car! I want performance and good internals. I think you can figure that out because of how hard i modded my 1993 Subaru Legacy Turbo. Im looking for a 1993-1995 ZR-1 in green, black, blue. Why not the 1992's and down? I just want the most stock HP i can have, yes i can fix that with a chip and intake and exhaust mods. Thats not the stock power. Also yes i would probably mod a ZR-1 BUT i would just do bolt on's. The car is too cherry! Main reason for wanting a ZR-1: Its meant to be driven. It can cruise easy down a highway. It can do 0-60 in less than 5 seconds...Probably under 4.5 Has a large top speed if needed. Has a large engine that in my terms very tame for what it is. Not stressed out horse power like my legacy turbo. The C4 looks GREAT in my eye's. Some people just dont get it. I love the styling. 6MT Great engine! The LT5 is a true gem of an engine! And mainly the engine! So to conclude my 1st thread/post. Any tips Any car advice Anything in terms of ZR-1 to help me buy a great car would be awesome. Tom |

Re: Hello to a new forum
There's really no difference between the early and late cars. The added weight evens out the performance. welcome to the forum.

Re: Hello to a new forum
Welcome! This is the site for ZR-1 owners and enthusiasts. Period. Anything you want to know is here.
Don't restrict yourself to 93-95 - there are a LOT more 90's and 91's out there and for a cheaper price for the most part because of more volume. I have seen some posted on here and on E-bay with minor damage/mechanical issues that can be had for less then $15k. Not often, but if you are patient you can find a deal. You obviously have mechanical skills and access to body shop so that might be the way to go for you. Keep watching the classifieds on here. Keep in mind you will probably have to travel to look at one/buy one. Better to buy one from this site because usually there are several members that know the car. I'm not into foreign cars (except as a daily driver) so Idk how quick yours is - but after having many muscle cars over the years I can honestly say my 90 Z with no mods except for a Haibeck chip is the quickest one I've owned. I had a 400hp Nova that this Z would run circles around with it's approx 400hp. Read the article on this page "Congratulations to 5ABIVT" - a fine example of what you can do with a Z.. Now for an honest question about Subarus - and don't take this wrong - there are a lot of WRX's around here. Many are modded. I have not heard one yet that didn't sound like crap. They all sound like they have a bad miss. Why is that? Are they really running that bad or is that something inherent to the WRX? I've often wondered as a gearhead what was up with them...

Re: Hello to a new forum
Haha . I know the answer to why Subaru cars sound weird . There exhaust's are different lengths for tuning from what I have been told so they create a kinda strange exhaust sound . Of course the Subaru guy can be more detailed then me lol ...

Re: Hello to a new forum
Lol.
Im surprised HOW many people actually respond to my post! I see that you guys dont really care what year of ZR-1 it is. I thought the 90-92 ZR-1's had a 2-bolt mains. Then the 93-95 ZR-1's had a 4-bolt mains. I know it a ladder design also! So wouldn't the 93-95's have the better bottom end? http://www.zr1netregistry.com/Inform...gineSpecs.aspx Sorry im just a nerd about stats and such. Also im NOT after something super crazy! I see some balls to the wall units here and there. Not sure if i need like 600HP. Fun yes BUT i dont think i need all that LOL! Some mods are cool. But would like stock as possible, then i can do my own take to the car. Funny you say 5ABIVT Racinfan83. That car is one of the reasons WHY i want a ZR-1. He has done a very nice job on that car and does it justice! I see from WAY to many people out there looking at C-4's and thinking its nothing special. They see the ZR-1 badge on the side and think nothing of it. It drives me nuts and i don't even OWN one yet! Also the reason WHY subaru's have the rumble is just due to unequal length headers. No joke on a turbo EJ subaru motor the drives side header is a 1 foot or so and the passenger side is like 6 inches or less. Then it hits the collector to the turbo. So that makes the rumble noises people love! lol Also not sure how how much i would park my Subaru if i owned a ZR-1. Its hard to explain the feelings the car gives. From its exhaust pop back with flames and 5K launch control, its still very fun to troll people on the street. Also you have to remember AWD is hard to beat. Cornering is nearly on rails for the money! Lol Only problem is you get nearly no tire spin. So not as fun. Anyways. If and when i get a ZR-1, i hope to capture similar aspects of the enjoyment from my subaru. Just not turbos and stuff. Also i would hope less complicated! Dealing with all the added system and keeping them running well is a pain! I know the ZR-1 has the additional fuel injectors so 16 total. So asking that question about fuel injectors. I have scooped the ZR-1 forum hard and cant really find an answer for this. Car you buy a aftermarket or fully programmable ECM/PCM? And yes i know of the Haibeck chip. But what happens if some one goes balls out? I know in the subaru world you just buy and stand alone and your done. But the ZR-1 has 16 injectors! The factory computer looks MASSIVE! Thoughts Tom |
