ZR1 quites running after short distance
Looking for some suggestions on my 1990 ZR! which I recently purchased. I bought the car knowing this problem exited. After driving the car 1/4 mile to a mile, the car just stops. Appears to be out of fuel. The previous owner put in a complete new fuel pump assembly to no avail. One thing he did have done was have someone put in a new ignition switch about the same time as the problem started. How and what would the ignition switch do to cause this problem. The switch is inexpensive but would like to understand why this would occur. What other potential areas would cause the same problem. Thanks for any help.

It usually has to sit for sometime, but there is occasions after about 5 mins it will start up.

Although you state the fuel pumps were replaced it certainly seems like that is still the problem. Does the car just die? Are the electronics still working it just quits running. Is a security light flashing ?

Did you replace both fuel pumps, primary and secondary?

I'd start with testing the pumps (follow the procedures in Solutions. Takes 10 mins) or hooking up a fuel pressure gauge. My guess...filter.

Yes, both pumps, the entire assembly. I just purchased a filter and will replace it today. I have been chasing it as an electrical issue, but I think you guys might be right with the filter. I will find out this weekend. If there was an electrical issue, where would you look? I appreciate everyone's help.

Once it starts in the garage it will run for a long time, not stopping. Which again could point to the filter, at idle, low fuel flow, driving, higher RPM;s, more fuel. As I said earlier I will know this weekend.
