Default 1990 vs 1991 SIR system questions

I know this has been beaten on before, but I want to know if anything 90 and 91 can be mixed?

not concerned about the Steering wheel at the moment. I am more curious as to the DERM, Wiring harness, Clock Spring, Sensors and the Airbag itself

THANKS

If a '90 was involved in a collision repair that required an SIR component then the DERM, coil and the airbag would have required replacement. There's no MIXING of those three components. Steering wheel also but you ain't concerned. I understand why.

Actually the frame rail sensors are part #'d differently and have different style connectors so could you cut/splice? Well ... I've never and I've no interest in an attempt.

Thanks!!

Every time I do something in depth on this car I find more and more... Dash harness has been spliced in a few spots.. But, I pulled the column yesterday.. found a 1991 wheel, 1991 airbag, which would mean 1991 clock spring.. then I assume a 1991 DERM.

You should be able to see the DERM without removing a thing with the column removed OR as many times as you've been into the dash I'd think you would recall an "ORANGE BRICK". The '90 DERM is ORANGE - '91 is just a typical CCM/ECM appearing box. Also the connectors to the frame sensors on the '90 are round 3 pin barrel and on the '91 they're like these along with all the rest of the SIR connectors:

'90 connectors aren't displayed as well but in the FSM Book 1 9J-5 has them all.

YEah I don't recall the orange brick in the dash.. I think the DERM is located center of the car near the CCM right?

Yes - you should be able to maybe eyeball the L & R sensor connectors to confirm. If they were splices of the original to the '91 I'd think it would have been done very close to the end of the wire. Maybe done well and stuffed up into the YELLOW sheath?

'91 DERM label likely 1228874 BUT maybe '92 could have been used (I wouldn't think), that might have 16061221, 16176561 OR (but unlikely) 16177277.
