Default Lower shift seal woes

After breathing in hot fumes I decided to check my lower shift seal (this is the seal that goes between transmission and floor of the car). Not too surprising the shift seal was completely missing. Ordered a new seal from a vendor and after wrestling it for 30 minutes it ripped. So here is the question(s):

(1) Is the shift seal metal ring held down by 4 crown nuts? I made my own ring since mine was missing - anyone have one lying around?

(2) Is the seal supposed to go over the lip on the inside of the transmission tunnel or fit inside the hole? I can't see it going over the lip and especially on the drivers side there is no room to get it over the lip.

(3) Where is everyone buying the lower seal from? Mine was real thick and getting it to bolt down (with the crown nuts) was a real pain. I checked the FSM and found nothing mentioning it or an pictures either.

Thank you in advance for any help!

This is the only pic I could find that shows the rubber boot best I can remember it just slips over the opening, hope it helps

Rubber seal to tunnel under the console.

Rubber boot on shift assembly has nothing to do with sealing the tunnel.

The rubber boot seals the console from under car heat. So it fits over the top of that metal ring on the tunnel. Not easy to do if you don't have console removed but it can be done.

Easier to pull the driver side console panel to install the boot
