Here's what I was thinking to do for my pcv setup. After some thought I figured more system volume can only be a good thing and 2 catch cans couldn't hurt. Ive read about oil vapor cooling and turning to liquid form so I decided that a cool area for the cans can only be beneficial as well. My thoughts are to split the line from the plenum and go forward under the intake duct and split to 2 lines along the rad to both catch cans positioned ahead of the wheels under the headlights. 2 black cans will be pretty stealth there. From there Ill run 2 long lines along the rails around back to the pcv valves (or the original hoses without the valves in them).

RIght up front, seems like 'more system volume', as you're saying, might NOT be good, since it's vacuum volume, that has to be evacuated, before MAP gets an accurate response.
Correct? |

The volume has made me wonder as well as placing 2 cans that far from the plenum source. I don't see any issue with Map though?

I really do not see the need to split the line into two coming from the rubber junction block near the MAP. It appears that both PCV lines feed into the single return line that goes the throttle body area on the passenger side.
I plan on relocating my catch can to under the car with braided hoses to and from the can. I like this idea because of gravity and it will be easier to dump the oil at oil changes or just reach under the car and open the can. The picture you posted has no ASR so I am assuming it is either a '90 or '91. This is where others have mounted their oil catch cans, along with some under and or near the headlights or relocated the battery and put it there. |

Im thinking to run 2 vaccum lines to 2 separate cans so each side of the injector housing will be drawn from each can. I figured since theres 2 ports may as well. My car is a 94 so there is asr. I wanted the cans completely out of sight as to me they aren't very pretty to look at nor are the lines. Ill have the split below the intake duct and run both lines along the rad shroud and down into the areas in front of the wheels. That way both cans are low, and in the coolest area under the hood. the lines will run along the rail with the other lines/harness that go that route.. complete out of sight.

Just my opinion but I think a pair of anodized alum cans plumbed with braided line and A-N fittings would work & look great.

Ordered up 2 cans today. Thinking to eliminate the oem hose in the rear that joins both sides and run the cans to each IH separately. I don't think a billet can looks bad I just don't see the purpose to have a can that traps oil stand out to the eye. I also do like braided hose but maybe im just too picky when and where to use them. I did order 3 braided hose pieces today but not for the pcv
![]() Started to pull the exhaust for the clutch job today and pulled all the bose enclosures as well... too many jobs at once im going nuts lol. the more I look at my work bench at all the hoses and tubes and bolts the more lost I feel ![]() |

hiding them is a cool idea and there is lots of room up there
I need to program out the vacuum pump and get rid of it and I'll have even more room I'd put the red anodized catch cans up front on the engine as they would look cool I just don't see the purpose to have a can that traps oil stand out to the eye >>>> the purpose IS to be unique and have the bling stand out when properly executed, it can be a valid alternative to hiding them I do like the steath approach I'd like to be able to easily drain them up on the lift too and putting them up front not really sure but I heard that running vacuum lines a long way doesn't really hurt anything and it shouldn't interfere with the map signal as that pipe is coming right off the back of the intake like to see what you bought for catch cans I like the ones with the clear tube on the side so I can see how full they are I agree that more catch can volume is a good thing even though you are going with two don't skimp on the quality (and I KNOW you won't) as the flow and ability to condense the oil is of course the reason for doing all this I need to make this mod for the LSV that's for sure!! |

Hard to answer you question w/o knowing if ONE separator (can) is insufficient for the way you are driving the car. So, I guess it depends on how you use the car, and the efficiency of the particular separator you've chosen to use.
I believe Dominic discovered the small separator used on some LS motors was insufficient for his liking: oil was still getting by it. So, he recently went to a much larger unit, presumably to reduce the oil getting into the plenum. I just installed a single Moroso separator in the driver's headlight well. (It is fairly large, compared to most I've seen.) I'll be curious to see what effect it has, i.e., how effective it is. I don't know if 100% reduction is necessary, but if it results in NO liquid oil trickling down the runners, especially after some spirited driving, I'd think that may be good enough. But, we'll see. ![]() |
