Default Stock 93-95 Resonator?

Anybody know where I can get a stock 93-95 resonator? And if I get one is it a direct bolt-on to the stock 90 exhaust? Or are they welded on? (At work now and can't remember)...

resonator is welded on. I'm fairly certain that all pipes from 90-95 were 2.75" so fitment shouldn't be a problem. If you can get a complete 93-95 exhaust it will be an easier install, whether you're using headers or stock and whether you want to retain stock mufflers, go back to 90 mufflers, or add 3rd party mufflers.

Previous owner of my 95 gave me the original exhaust and plug wires when I bought it. However, he cut the exhaust after the resonators so it would be easier to store. I don't see myself putting them back on in place of the Corsa's so feel free to shoot me a PM with your contact info and I can send you pictures or take measurements for you.

I also have a 93 resonator that was cut out if you can't find one. would have to be welded back in. Think it has about 6" of pipe on each end.

I also have a space Corsa resonator if needed. 2.5 Inches will weld right in there.

Wow lots of replies in a hurry for this one! For those who have done it - would it be easier to drop the exhaust and take it to a shop and have it welded or have them do it on the car? Kinda concerned about the welding messing up the electronics?
This is just another little upgrade Ive been thinking of doing. Trying to keep the car as stock as possible - but the HP upgrade with taking the 90 resonator out and putting in a less restrictive one would be nice...

Id drive it to the shop and have them weld it up for you. Muffler shops have been pipe bending and welding for generations and I have never heard of any electronic concerns.

Better to take it as GC says they can tack it in so it fits correctly, than remove and weld all around.

  • for correct fitment when modifying or installing any non-OEM exhaust, always drive to exhaust shop
  • note that the 90 stock exhaust has two bottlenecks: the resonator necks down close to the welds and the muffler(s) also neck down in addition to one of the tips being essentially non-functioning.
You might want to consider obtaining a complete late model exhaust system to avoid having to cobble together pieces & parts. Someone on the forum may have one for cheap or free. The tips will not look like the 90 tips but you will have the later OEM rectangle tip. If you can find a 96 LT4 exhaust, grab it ... it works quite well. Except for the connection to the right front exhaust pipe it's essentially plug & play ... there was a change sometime after 90 in the manner in which the right side connected. (search the forums or perhaps someone will chime in on the change). Also note that if you change to a late model stock exhaust you will free up a few HP while still maintaining a reasonably quiet system.

Your other option is to look at the various third party exhaust systems available ... there's plenty to read about on the forums. I would recommend before you start "investing" in any of the other systems to try to listen to any systems that interest you ... better yet, ride in those cars and possibly drive them. I'm confident that any fellow Z owner would be more than happy for you to try out their car and the exhaust note that it has. You can listen to recordings but they really aren't the same as experiencing the real thing.

Main thing ... you may hear a wide range of opinions of what sounds good, what works good, the best thing for you, yada, yada ... but the best exhaust system is the one that pleases you, so take your time & do your research before dropping any serious coin. Good luck.

Thanks guys. Got the hook up on a late model resonator. Gonna give that a shot first - both for "stock" and dollar reasons. Wife doesn't want it "loud" and I kinda agree. If it were just me - loud is ok to some point - but this is OUR cruise machine and I don't want to make conversation difficult. My Nova was so loud you couldn't talk - so been there done that...
