I think it's time to get another z
Hello,
I have had a 91 zr-1 but for a very brief stint. Now, that I sold my GTO I am back looking. I know mostly the little things on these and know the motor is indestructible, but I am nervous about driving it 10-15k miles per year (which I plan to). In that time, it will have quite a bit of time outside (parking lot at work and driving) will the sun effect a car of this age? May be a stupid question but since the car was made when I Was in the womb, I have no idea how the paints were back then. What about windshield delamination- can being in sun effect it? Lastly, the one I am looking at (91) had only half of the injectors replaced. Is this normal? Sorry about my stupid questions. It won't be a daily driver in snow but nearly everything else. I himmed and hawed over a zo6 or this and I just always had a thing for them and the interior on the zr-1 is much nicer. |

Welcome to the forum. First things first. A properly cared for ZR1 car will last well into 6 figures on the odo before major repairs.
Sun will affect any car regardless of type of paint. Even the new paint with ultraviolet inhibitors will at some time need refurbishing. My Z has 56,000 miles on it and the paint is better than some new cars. Of course its been garage kept between runs and cleaned and polished regularly. Delam is an issue with this type of windshield but mine is still original and hasn't started to delam yet. If it was in the sun all day long i'm sure it would show delam by now. As for injectors...I can't understand why someone would go to all the trouble of replacing just 1/2 of them. The 90-92 cars have injectors that don't like ethanol fuel and eventually start to short out the coils over time. I had 4 bad injectors (1 primary, 3 secondary) so I replaced them all to save future work. The guys on this forum take very good care of their cars and it shows in the pics Ive seen. Welcome. |

worry about NOT driving. life is too short to drive junk.
I have 80k miles on my stroker zr-1 and the car pulls harder than it did with 38k miles. the LT5 will likely last longer than the rest of the car. by all means buy another one and DRIVE IT no reason not to. measure life in number of grins and you'll be in the ZR-1 more I decided to commute to work in it. I get up just a bit earlier so I can enjoy the car with the top off in the cool morning air. the LT5 loves a cool breeze and there's no dyno correction factor on the street. the LSV pics up 20 rwhp at 50 deg, so I know lately I'm getting up to 520+ with the cool 60 deg days and the tires need to be burned off the car. doing my best to do just that car is a blast. like frankie says "who are you saving it for" I plan to put 100k more miles on what I have already and then see if it pulls as hard as it does now the LT5 is an anvil that enjoys a good beating gets better mileage than the turbo buick anyway
