F1 'stickiness' (or lack thereof...)
I got new F1's, and the rears broke loose the other day. Kinda' surprised me here. Hammer was NOT to the floor, and blacktop was dry. THen later, I saw hardly any markings on the road.
This happen to anyone else with this model rubber on the corners? Is F1 a 'hard' rubber?

Re: F1 'stickiness' (or lack thereof...)
If you're referring to the GY F1-GS-D3s, like Big John said, "no sticky".
I've had them for about 5 years now, and I find that much below 40 degrees they're pretty pathetic. And, it gets worse as temps drop from there, I find. p.

Re: F1 'stickiness' (or lack thereof...)
Interesting! I have the same observation/complaint. I take the point that the warmer the pavement and tire, the better; but I expected better from such an expensive tire.
Last October on a cool dry afternoon, I accelerated hard in 2nd to activate the secondaries as I had done at least 25 times before in the same location (on a up-hill grade) and much to my surprise, the back end broke loose - unlike the previous 20+ times when I did it with cheap Sumis on - often under the same temperature conditions. $4,500 later with new wheels and many rear suspepension parts, I am finally undoing the damage from that fateful October afternoon. WIth less than 200 miles on the F1s, I'll keep them and hope I am happier at the end of the summer. At the moment though, I am not impressed!!!! |
