Title says it all here; for 'normal' road driving (not track), what tires are best?

Mine had new GSD3's out back when I bought it last year, so I put a matching pair up front (and how do you hide the lead anyway here - tape? Magic Marker? )

Anyone else with F1's?

What DO you have loaded on your hardware?

gsd3s but i'm considering michelins. i'd plastidip the weights, and the center caps

I always liked the GSD3 when I had those. They couldn't be bought for a while, out of stock, so on my Factory wheels I installed Nitto NT05's and they are great. On my Shelby 18's I installed Michelin PS2's and they are the best tire I have ever driven. I had Michelin PS2's on my G8 GT and they went 35,000 miles and stuick great the whole time even in terrible weather. I just put on Michelin Pilot SuperSport tires on the G8 this time around, which are LIke the PS2 but the treadwear rating is up from 220 to 300 and has another 2/32 of tread depth. SO I figure the super sport will go 40K miles, and only slightly sacrifice grip.

The PS2's on ,my ZR1 still don't show any wear, but they only have about 3000 miles on them. hehe. But at 140MPH they are smoooooth.

Can Plasti-Dip be applied without removing the lead? Or does it replace the adhesive?

I changed from sumitos to Michelins. Huge improvement! The Michelins don't follow ruts or groves on hiways!! Not even the same car!

I am running Michelin PS2s in 18" wheels. Love them! Best tire I have ever tried on this car - Goodyear GSCs, Bridgestone RE71s, B.F.Goodrich KDWs, Sumitomos, Michelin Pilot sports, and now PS2s.
Almost forgot - I had GS D3s before the Michelin Pilot Sports. Also my 91 had the original Goodyear Gator backs.

GSD3s here as well. I just bought them before winter storage and have only about 40 miles on them, so I am anxiously awaiting spring to see what they are like.

My only experience thus far was the back end breaking loose when accelerating hard in 2nd at about 3000 to "exercise" the secondaries - I am still fixing the suspension damage from the curb hit. I had done that several times before with the Sumis without incident, so I was surprised/disappointed. I chaulked it up to the very cool temperatures at the time. I'll be sure the rubber is warmer next time.

I've "gone through" a set of GSD3s. They have been excellent except for drag racing, where they struggle for grip. And, I believe they may have saved my butt where some other tires I've experienced may not have: they stuck like glue on a wet blind corner where some jackass coming the other way in a PU truck had drifted over the centerline. No problem for the D3s taking on what might have been a challenge for mortal tires - even on dry pavement!

A Road and Track test I read (back in 2009?) showed the top dog was the BFG KDs that pulled middle 0.9 Gs on the dry skid patch (on a BMW test car). But, the BFGs really fell off on the wet patch test; I wanna say they ranked in the mid 0.5s. Furthermore, the BFGs lost traction abruptly, making control of the skid "a little" more difficult.

The thing about the F1GSD3s that impressed me was not only did they get to within 2-3 hundredths G force of the BFG KDs on dry (about 0.92 for the D3s, if I recall), but did almost as well on the wet test - pulling in the 0.8s!

Over all I have nothing but nice to say about the performance of the D3s. Availability and cost...is another matter, however. And, then there's that occational trip to the drag strip where 60' times are critical.

So, I'm reading about and talking to those that have tried other tires. And, I gather that if I stay with the 17" wheels, the good alternatives are limited - at least for now. However, the Nitto tires seem to be favored by Marc H. and Kevin Costello, and others - not just for cost, but performance in particular!

I drag race (officially) a couple times a year, but really enjoy twisty roads more often. So, a sticky tire that corners well gets my attention. (I'm leaning toward the Nitto 555Rs for the front and the 555 DRs for the back.)

I have to say tho, if the D3s were not so pricy, and RARE at times, I'd prolly get another set of them and another set of rear wheels to put maybe some Hoosier DRs on them for drag days.

That's my story, an I'm stickin' toit!!
