SEVERAL ZF 6x ---> auto conversions??? Any on the boards here?
Mine went under the wrench today, to get an RPM Stage V 4L60e, and dedicated controller module from TCI.
Sacrilege you say? I agree. I especially liked seeing it holding just under 31 MPG, at 67 MPH, with the 0.6:1 gearing in 6th. But a drinker, whom I met head on, SQUARE, 110MPH+ combined, did not agree, and really folded both of my sticks to the point where each had extra knees / ankles / etc. But I'm here; he's needed butter for 6 years (he's toast), so I'm over it. So now, all is back in relative order, except that stick trannies, and MY 2 sticks don't play nice together. The swap should be done by Fri 10 / 14. When done, I'll shoot snappics of the work, make annotations to FSM, and post up here. In the meantime, anyone on the forum boards here already done this? Quote:
Anyone have pics / specs / parts [new] schematics??? The ZF has 32K documented, and can be had cheap. PM @ me, if interested here... Last edited by Schrade; 12-10-2012 at 06:58 PM. |

john becker did his car and posts often.
LPE converted a couple of the TT ZR-1s and a ZR-1 with an auto will work very well. the mounting for the c beam has some challenges and the conversion isn't cheap due to the dedicated tranny controller and high cost of the trans what are you doing for the flex plate? quite a few ZR-1s have been modded with auto trans and made to work quite well. I'm all for it. my knees are shot and driving the stick is getting more painful all the time.

As much as I [think I] know, I do NOT know what TT version Z-car is. Prototypical, perhaps? The 'innerds' went into a '95 LT1 auto housing; so the mount isn't supposed to be an issue. None-the-less, the shop Mayhem Motorsports in Raleigh, did add in $$ for driveshaft length modification. ??? I have seen the flexplate. Don't remember the name, but the itemized estimate was flexplate $159... If I can copy / paste the .xml estimate, I will do so. Got it... |

I have done a few of these.
You can use stock C4 auto driveshaft (no custom driveshaft needed) also use stock C4 automatic C-beam and stock C4 dipstick. Yeap PI has both measurements for 4L60 and 4L80 Torque Converters thanks to yours truely Also exhaust will need to be modified to fit around auto trans. How much horsepower you making in that Z? Pete

It is stock; no mods, except for M Haibeck's Memory Calibration module, which MIGHT get it close to original power for a '90 car, or MARGINALLY more... So stock C4 D/S will hold Z car's power / TQ? No mods are planned; only PROPER tune / maintenance (famous last words). It might have some fluid deposits (crankcase, injectors), with 22 years on the clock; 32K mi not-with-standing... |

Stock,C4 automatic driveshaft has held up to a mid 10 second ZR-1 and stock C4 automatic C-beam. Pete

Re: SEVERAL ZF 6x ---> auto conversions??? Any on the boards here?
I recall that one of the first AT ZR-1 conversions was done by a fellow named Mark Weaver. He was an engineer with GM and had access to inside information at GM. I think it was 4L60E. He had a one of a kind truck transmission controller for the transmission. I made an effort to find out how to reprogram the shift points but never could find a bit of information about the controller or Mark Weaver.
The car was a red 1990. It was nicely documented by a Detroit newspaper. The newspaper article was in the car. I recently heard that it was for sale in Idaho. |

And Mr. KnowledgeBase is on the boards... Hat's off to you Sir! Got your site bookmarked there too (can't see the screen tho', from the 'library' (where the seat has a hole ) )
I watched eBay for 10 - 12 weeks to gauge prices. I really didn't expect to find any conversions to auto, or even a nearby car. This one showed up < 25mi away - same story with my last one. Just something about getting static and dynamic FP readings BEFORE bringing them home . |

Wow you should be able to get Automatic trim parts For WAY less that the price they are giving.
There are way to many C4s being parted out to pay that much for some parts.
