New Lift in--only one minor mishap
Well I got my new lift installed a couple of weeks ago and it seems to work fine. Got a Direct Lift Pro Park 8S. Not as fancy as some but for me a good combination of certified lift and price, and the perfect dimensions for my garage. Thanks Lee G or letting me see yours and get your counsel. I had it professionally installed, as I am getting a bit old for that stuff. I have almost 10' of ceiling height in my garage plus it is 21' wide x 21' deep with an 18' door. I raised the garage door tracks to within about 6" of the ceiling (which also shortened how far they protrude into the garage). Also installled a Jackshaft opener which is great.
My need was to have either my ZR-1 or BMW 535 up on the lift so I can park under it on a daily basis. It so far works fine. Plenty of room between posts--94", almost eight feet. But not too wide overall--103", leaving plenty of room for my wife's car in her normal spot. I have about 4-6 inches above either car when the other is up. If I had about one more inch of ceiling height I could get one more notch on the lift, but as is it is OK. I did move one light fixture and replace both with low profile flourescents. I also added a ceiling mounted electrical outlet just above the motor and the motor cord just reaches, so no extension cord on the ground. I currently have to back the BMW onto the lift due to interference with the door but I think with some work I will be able to get a few more inches out of the door and tracks and be able to drive in forward. The only minor mishap I have had was my fault. Last week with the BMW up I drove the ZR-1 in under the ramps but forgot to turn off the radio. Broke the antenna mast. Dumb. Have ordered a new one from MAD and will install this weekend, although my daughter is getting married Friday so it may delay the repair a bit. The lift is positioned close to the door to allow room at the front for refrigerator, tool cabinet and walking around. I had the motor mounted alongside the ramps instead of on the side so I have almost two feet on the side and front to get out of the car and walk around. Hopefully it will work well for a long time. --Bob

I'd love to see some pictures
It sounds like you got everything figured out and working well (except for antenna clearance). Do you have jack trays for working on the Z up there? |

Re: New Lift in--only one minor mishap
Yes the Pro Park 8S lift comes with a jack bridge (no wheels), four drip trays and a set of four casters with poly wheels. And I may have to use them after all--I had clipped off the broken antena and crimped the end to keep the nylon ribbon on top so I could replace it with the mast replacement. When I was getting ready to do so and turned the radio on and off, the ribbon slipped out and got sucked into the motor and won't come out any more. So it looks like I will have to pull the antenna motor. Bummer.

Re: New Lift in--only one minor mishap
Maybe its time for an Antenna switch?
http://www.zr1.net/forum/showthread....hlight=antenna Granted this is more a mod for us using sirius/XM and no longer the OEM radio but something to think about if you consintently forget to turn off the radio.

Re: New Lift in--only one minor mishap
I have the antenna up/down switch and always leave it in the down position. Reception is never an issue. Once you flip the switch, you'll never have to worry about forgetting anything.

Re: New Lift in--only one minor mishap
I would like to say "DUMB AZZ" but I did the same exact thing. I did install an antenna switch on the Purple Beast and added 6 reminder tags to the frame of the lift.
I like the Bendpak lift for the added security of the pneumatic locks.

Re: New Lift in--only one minor mishap
Why is a C5 sitting up there like some sort of collectable?
