Default Intermittent high level brake light

Anyone had a problem with an intermittent high level brake light. Are there any common problems? Is the circuit feed from two fuses?

Thanks.

It is fed from a separate switch on the brake pedal. It's not an uncommon problem. My car had an inop high mounted brake light, and the switch was the problem. Fortunately it's a pretty easy fix.

Seriously, how do you twist yourself to get to this spot under the dash? Is there a secret to getting to the switch?

Thanks, John

um, I just sort of laid on my back a bit. It's not overly comfortable but not impossible. It all comes out and goes in pretty easily once you reach it.

Hi Guys,

Mine is down too. Not just intermittent, it's out completely. No voltage making it's way up to the fixture on the roof.

Do either of you have the part number for that switch? Is it diagrammed in the shop manual?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Thanks Bob,

I got it ordered for $9 bucks and I am on my way to a fixed up ride!

Say, I noticed that you have a very sharp looking ride! Particularly near and dear to my own (red on red '90 with GM 5-spokes). I noticed the funky intake as something different though.

What did you produce on the Superflow dyno in your picture?

I am hoping to get mine on a roller some time soon.

Thanks again for the quick help.

Wow!!!

Where did you find one for $9. I think I want a spare.

Fixed mine with 1 wrap of electrical tape to make it seat in the bracket more securely. Looks like when you release the brake petal it pushes the switch back in the bracket, eventially the petal does not make contact.

Thanks for the info.

Heheh, yeah mine is the other red/red with 5-spokes. Thanks for the compliments.

The intake is the SLP Claw. Mostly it's on there for looks.

On the superflow, my car put down ~325 hp when it was all stock except a ported top end. With a cat-back exhaust it put down ~350 hp. I have since added headers but have not re-dynoed it on that same dyno. It did put down 385hp at Haibeck's, which is a dynojet. I suspect the Superflow reads lower as it's an eddy-current dyno. I would guess my car would put down around 370hp on it now.

If you think that's bad, try lying on your back under the dash trying to remove the (6) nuts holding the brake booster to the fire wall so you can get at your cam covers. It helps to remove the seat, but then you get to contend with the seat mount bars. But I digress.......
