Repairing bad Fuel Pumps.

The ZR-1 uses two fuel pumps, a primary and a secondary. If one goes bad then you have to replace the whole assembly at a cost of around $1400. Instead you can replace the individual bad fuel pump for a cost of around $72. The '96 Suburban with the 454 engine uses the same fuel pump and is a direct replacement. GM part number is 25163473.

NOT $1400 from Jerry's Gaskets. I'm traveling at the moment, but we sell that complete unit for under $350. Comes with to gasket. Drop in deal.

Great news Gerry! I just copied the info from the main registry site - apologies for the "misinformation".

However you should decide to go, I would recommend replacing the plastic hose clamps with SS worm clamps. Turn the screw to the inside to make it easier to place through the tank filler neck. There have been isolated cases of the original plastic clamps coming loose.

There are other good reasons to replace the assembly, besides pumps; new level sender, hoses, clamps and new filter socks. I have had never bought a replacement pump that had the long, wrap around suction filter like the original, which required reusing the old one.

I've done both, aftermarket replacement pumps & the complete unit. All in all, I have not had a problem with either. You do have viable options to either method. Just offering objective differences for your consideration.
