Pretty cool. I think this may be Pete's nocturnal dream!

I understand they can now rapid prototype in Stainless Steel.

Did you catch the part where dimensional accuracy is within 40 microns?

I caught something on either TLC or Discovery the other day where they were showing how they used this technology in the packaging industry. They actually made a 3-D water bottle model that they could present to the customer as a hands on rep of their packaging. Very cool!

I almost bought one at SEMA a couple of years ago. They are neet to watch there are several types. One is like the video, one uses fine droplets of plastic, the other uses a liquid plastic that a laser scans . Where ever the light hits it turns solid then moves down into the tank and scans it again layer upon layer. . The problem isthe parts it makes are not very strong will break real easy. The cool thing is comples gears and stuff work when it comes out of the machine.

at the 2:20 mark here, they talk about it:

That was the first time I'd heard of it. Apparently you can build your own from inkjet printers. I didn't realize you could have moving parts come out of a single printing, though, that is mind-boggling.
