House Approves SAN Supported Measure to Suspend EPA E15 Program; Senate Action Next

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a provision to prevent the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from using agency funds to permit an increase in the amount of ethanol content in gasoline to 15% (E15). The provision is part of a larger bill to fund the federal government during fiscal year 2011 which must also be approved by the U.S. Senate. The SEMA Action Network (SAN) requested this action and worked hard to secure the vote. When signed into law by President Obama, this timely legislation will protect automotive enthusiasts and consumers from misfueling and other unnecessary harm.

On behalf of millions of auto enthusiasts across the country, SAN applauds the House of Representatives for acknowledging the need for more unbiased and independent testing on the impact of E15 on vehicles and engines. The provision suspends EPA?s premature efforts to permit E15 in the marketplace in fiscal year 2011. The SAN is now working to help pass a newly introduced bill (HR 748) to repeal the EPA E15 program altogether.

The SAN will continue to take proactive steps in Washington, D.C. to oppose E15 until there are conclusive scientific findings that demonstrate that it will not harm automobiles of any age as a result of corrosion or other chemical incompatibilities.

I'd like to ask one of the scientists at the EPA why adding ethanol to gas was such a good idea in the first place? What was the benefit with regards to emissions? Why can't methanol be used in stead if this alcohol additive idea is so great?

sorry, I just don't get the line of reasoning that yielded this ethanol conclusion as the "answer" to the emissions issue.

Think about this.
Ethanol is derived from corn (no $hit Sherlock). With an ever increasing world population. That we need too feed. We satisfy our ever increasing need for fuel by taking from the food supply.

The funny thing is that ethanol can be produced with many number of organic materials. The push to use corn is just to drive up the cost of a bushel. When one controls the food they control the world.

Do you realize that the State of New York has to import corn from other states to drive their ethanol production?

They claim that this is made with "feed" grade corn, not that suibtale for human consumption, but even if that is true what do we feed livestock? What do we do with livestock?

If you break down any government mandate, or government project once can clearly see waste, glaring expamples of stupidity, and complete lack of common sense. It's like I tell everyone who claims that federal control of healthcare is necessary, name one federal run program that is a model that would work in the public sector, or is fiscally sound. Of course they cannot, so they start name calling.

I can't stand ethanol in my Corvettes or boat.

I just found a new place about 20 miles from me selling 93 Non Ethanol.

I purchase 50 gallons or $170 per visit.

I hope its a few years until ethanol free gas disappears completely.
