Default Service selective ride code 12

What do I do about what I believe is a code 12 on 91 Z has the coil over bilstein. I've searched the forum were I found the info to pull code off dash light. Just want to know how hard it is the get to the connection or even pull off coil over off the Z. Have found the connecters on the corvette parts stores mid america, central. So I know I can buy new parts if I have to,but I not really sure about coil over do I have to send them back to bilstein for new shocks if the is the problem. What is the best way to tell if the shock is done for. Any help will be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

If all that is flashing is a 12, you don't have a code set. See this link:

Thanks Vette Vet your right the code is actually 13 Left rear time out. So that means that the shock or fx3 connection is broke or come lose. Then what is the best way to get at the shock and connector when the tire is off.

Thank you Russell

Hi,

Rear shocks are held in place on top by 2 bolts over a plate bolted into side rails. Once 2 top bolts are unbolted and a nut removed and shock bottom pulled out of a bolt, shock should drop out from the hole in the side rail. Do not yank out because on the top of the shock is the actuator w/ wires and a connector.

Typically when the car throws a code it is due to the gear on top of the shock being busted or the planetary gear within the actuator being cracked. My bet is with the gear.

You can buy the gear and, if necessary, have Captain Z repair the actuator.

I would order a couple of gears and clips before pulling the shock.
By the way, you need good eye sight, a hell of a digital dexterity and a lot of patience to replace the gear because it is held in place with a real small diameter pin.

Good luck!

Who you calling a gentleman?

Just kidding!!

I've never met you, just know who you are from hanging around on here.

I'm not ruling out the possiblility that we'll have the chance to meet some day though.

Take care!!!
