Default ZR-1, and other cars

are getting a new home.

After 6 years of renting my "hobby shop" about an hour away from me, I have been given notice to vacate. It seems another wants to rent the location, and the landlord is not happy with how infrequently I am there (two out of the 6 years I never showed up there).

With ITLGO2's help, I have begun the process of building a new 30'x40' shop on my property (it will be nice not to burn two hours a day on the road to the other shop). Keith has helped me with some good connections for some of the work.

Tuesday the planning department is going to look at the plans, and plat, and make a determination of whether I can build or not (you have to love government assistance in determining what you can do with your own property). June 12th, the tree's are going to be taken down, two 40' pines, one 50' rock maple, and one 50' Maple) to make room for the new building.

With any luck it will be up by the first week of July. It will be getting 3 new lifts, and assorted other goodies to make my life a little easier. I am pretty excited about this, and should have done it years ago.

Thought I would share.

I love that you were told to vacate, if you were paying for it he can't tell you how and what your doing with it.

unless the law says he can.

anyway I have dreamed of my own large garage but havent gotten around to make it happen yet.

good luck with yours!

Thanks Phrogs.

Yes, he can tell me to vacate because I am a "month to month renter". We have never formed a new lease after the original one year lease was up. I could have ended the agreement after the lease expiration, just as he did, if I had chosen to. I don't buy the whole idea that how often I was out there played a part in the decision, that is just foolish.

Either way it will turn out to my benefit, as I will own this building, and save time/money.

I am curious how some of those on here who have similar size buildings have set them up. I am planning on doing one garage door in the front, and one rear with the lifts offset. I was originally going to do three bays in front, and just have a regular "pull in" setup. What do you guys think?

I think I would lean toward something like what you have planned. (I'm jealous!!) But, on the other hand, it simply amazes me that for all the work including pulling engines, etc, that Marc Haibeck does, he doesn't have a single lift in his shop...Not one!

Talking Re: ZR-1, and other cars

Only comment I have is if you made it modular, i.e., multiples of 4' each way, you might end up with a little bigger shop for the same money. So, a 32' x 44' might be the same as you are looking at.

Another thought, go as big as you can afford and have room for. I'm sure you already know, enough is never enough, right.

Sounds like a great thing to happen actually.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I cannot go any larger than that on my property, and comply with county regulations.

Marc is a better man than I, I am well past the point that laying on cold concrete feels good to me lol. Call me spoiled, but I also do a lot of fab work when I have time, and am not going to do that laying on my back on the floor, with the car only inches above me.

So one bay door in front, and one in the back for airflow? I honestly think that will be the best solution, but like I said I am open to input from everyone on it. Building design is not my strong point

Rob: this is a link to another post about garages/shops. The picture of Jerry's plans are gone, but I'm sure he would send them to you if you ask.

I plumbed in Air comp lines with lots of outlets. Retractable rolled extension cords. twice as many electrical outlets then you think you need. several ready lights hanging on the ceiling. Plumb in water for a sink. Urinal on the wall!
