I can't stand it - I NEVER put it in my Z or my boat.
If I must use ethanol in my other Corvettes, I use a test kit for %'s. Amazing what high %'s you can get at some of these gas stations. The max is only supposed to be 10%. Now in the future they want to increase it 15%. Last edited by xlr8nflorida; 01-05-2010 at 08:58 PM. |

Let's see, cost me two plenum pulls and 16 injectors needlessly wasted. Nope - I don't have a problem with it.

Not a fan either. Nothing in my area without it.

It's everywhere in the US. The San Antonio area was the last to have real gasoline - until October 1, 2009.

When I travel or on the water, I use a test kit. I refuse to pay $50 or $100 for **** gas with high ethanol content or worse yet high water content. New cars are now coming with a water separator filter similar to what you use on a boat. Redline or Chevron Techron for Fuel System - the majority of others have alcohol and absorb water. My extra supply of gas is dyed so I can tell if it has taken on water etc. Last edited by xlr8nflorida; 01-05-2010 at 10:37 PM. |

Amsoil makes an Octane Boost. It's pretty pricey about $10 a bottle. The problem with "points" is that most octane booters consider a point like a 1/10 of a point so most are useless. However in their marketing material it shows a point as a real point. Some sites say 7 points but this graph actually shows 91 octane going to 93.5 ![]() You only need to go up an octane point or so therefore a bottle could last you 2 tanks. If you wanted to be up in the 93 range then it would cost you about $10 extra per fill up. Just a thought, You can do some research on it. Redline products are usually pretty good stuff though. I must have missed something. I swear that where I live, NYC/metro suburbs, we have had methanol in our gas for as long as I can remember! All the way back to the late 80's(?)...I remember at the gas dock the only thing you could get was 93 unleaded w/10% methanol (?), unless you went to the local Cigarette dealer's gas dock...then you could get leaded race gas, CAM 2 I think it was. All the needle nosed drivers that had anything above a MCM 330 TRS system were regulars at that dock, but that stuff was $4.50+/gal when Texaco 93 unleaded was like $2+ per gallon. I could see it if you had big $$ invested in the big HP motors. I just added a diesel water separator in my system....it never had much in it either...to go along with the std MCM f/filter, the one that looked like an oil filter.
I never noticed any ill effects on my MCM260 alpha 1, it only had a 9.0 CR? Is this because I wasn't paying attention, did I miss something? This stuff is bad for our LT5's? I realize that alcohol, in general, is great for absorbing water from even just the air. Is it Ethanol or Methanol...I gonna look the next time I get gas! ![]() Tom

![]() Tom[/QUOTE] I remember the Cam 2 Fuel ![]() Ethanol is more of a problem if you have the early fuel injectors like in the 90-92 Z's. They are not compatible with ethanol and will short out the coils. I have a box of replacement injectors that work with ethanol but my original injectors are still running like a charm. If you have a later Z, the ethanol would not be as big of a problem except for winter storage and possibly some of your hoses etc. Ethanol likes to take on water so if you have your car parked for awhile you can take on water which then in fact will lower your octane rating. http://www.zr1specialist.com/HAT%20W...eplacement.pdf Last edited by xlr8nflorida; 01-06-2010 at 01:51 PM. |

I just reported what the tank truck driver told me last October. He seemed pretty certain about it too. I have discovered some states do not require an alcohol warning on the pumps, but TX does require them. Can anybody prove beyond a shadow of doubt there is still non-alcohol pump gas being sold anywhere else?
