Default Fully polished LT5

Came across this Z on the 'Bay, '91 #1284. Has the entire top end of the LT5 polished. Never seen one like that before. Owner claims it was done by the dealer in '91 when the car was new.

Um yeah... I asked Marc about that and around here they use a lot of salt on the roads too. (Not that we drive them much in winter, but until there has been a couple hard rains, that dust lingers for a while...ask me how I know!)

However, I have to think there may be something that can be applied that would impede tarnishing; silicon, for example. I discovered that after flushing a blued gun barrel etc with the chloride (tri or tetra) brake cleaners (NOT the "safe" petroleum distillate crap) followed by a pure silicon-based spray and rubbing it in, it has proven to be the best guard against oxidation treatment - by far - that I've come across (and I've tried a lot of things - shooting being my other hobby for some 50 years). One would probably want to try it on a scrap piece of polished aluminum first, how some ever...

Perhaps this is not a smart Q, but could you use the same clear coat that they put on factory wheels? Maybe a clear powder coat? I mean the stuff on the stock wheels resists brake heat & hot brake dust. Wouldn't that work to protect the polished alum?

I would think it would turn yellow if you clear coated the motor, Too much work for me to have something like that and the work that goes into polishing all that aluminum OMG no way.

You could clear it but once you do your done. It will turn yellow or start to peel at some time. (could be a long time) Once it does you have to strip off the clear and re-polish. Zoop seal isn't bad, will last a couple of years. I like keeping anything polished bare, that way I can always give it a quick touch up to bring back the shine. PC or a Good 2 stage Paint is the best for our engine. It does look sweet, I almost went that route but I have to much polished stuff on my car to take care of already.

Believe it or not, WD-40 sprayed on a rag then wiped over polished surfaces & buffed in works not bad/pretty good
