Engine Smokes
I have a 90 ZR-1 w/ 41k on the clock and an engine that's started to smoke. I figured I'd get some expert advice on exactly where to begin here on the registry. Here's the details
Smoke is blue in color Smokes and has a strong ordor when initailly started then disapates when run about 15 mi. or so Doe's not burn any oil ( at least from dipstick indicator ) Doe's not leak any oil New plugs and wires less than 2k mi. ago Any assistance would be welcome and thanks in advance. |

Re: Engine Smokes
if its a fuel smell and bogs, could be an injector

Oil level ok? What do you use? How long have you had it? Has it been sitting?

Re: Engine Smokes
1990 ZR-1's/LT5's did not have exhaust seals, they get a puff of smoke at start up no harm done, basicly normal.
If you ever do top end job i would suggest installing exhaust seals. Pete

Re: Engine Smokes
I use mostly 10w30 (6 qts) then 10w40 to top it off (2qts)

Re: Engine Smokes
When I went to 15-50 race oil it stopped on my 90 and 15-50 is the weight many turbo motors use to stop turbo blow by

Re: Engine Smokes
Plus if I recall Mobil 1 15-50 has the high ZDDP content.

Re: Engine Smokes
Hmmmm....
T'would be interesting to see how/why you determined that (the equiv of) 10W-32.5 is significantly different from 10W-30 - enough so anyway to go thru the bother... P.
