What failed on the old throwout bearing?

Phil
The throwout bearing failed at the flared flange that holds the whole thing together.

Here is the failed throwout bearing spread out to show the parts:

This is the flared piece that broke off:

All of the parts shown stayed on the input shaft. The only piece that was missing is the spring clip/ring that positions the throwout bearing during assembly. There were a lot of scratches on the block, the flywheel, the clutch and the bell housing. We believe that the spring clip was ground to dust, and exited through the valley drain hole.

Is this the same failure that occurred on your clutch recently?

Jim

Both cars running great!

Wow! Seemed like a heck of a task to get two transmissions dropped out and replaced in one day, but obviously the right guys were on the job.

And it was cool seeing that Goat. Maybe I'm from the wrong generation, because I can't imagine owning and driving something like that, but they sure are cool to see and hear. And that one looked and sounded great!

That throwout bearing really shyt the bed!
All mine did was break off one of the retainer tabs which allowed the retainer ring to fly off and rattle around in the bellhousing until became hung up on the clutch fork.

Wow, two transmissions in one day. What's next, two transmissions and an engine swap? Sorry I couldn't make it.

Is that a challenge Rich?
A good time was had by all. It is a pleasure to help Z brothers and to turn wrenches with quality people. I'm awaiting the next project.
