Clutch break-in (besides driving in traffic) - ZR-1 Net Registry Forums

It seems a bit ambigeous to me to suggest 500 or whatever miles of city i.e, stop and go driving is required to break in a new clutch. The opportunity for variables to, well, VARY is obvious!

Is there not a particular procedure we can use - especially on the OEM Veleo - where we can be sure the clutch will be properly broken in?

Well they all say 500 miles of preferably stop and go city driving. Even the spec stage 3+ instructions say 500 miles city light to light driving for break in before dumping the clutch at high RPM's. I'm no kidding it actually says "Before dumping the clutch at high RPM's" you must break in for 500 miles. So I would just do what they say.

Well, no. But, it has rounded the corner. The mechanical issues seem to be in the rear view mirror now. So now it's time to bolt it all back together and try it again. I'm thinking this weekend she may just spread her new wings for a shake-down cruise! Keeping my fingers crossed!

I take my car up to 55, keep my foot on the gas and push in on the clutch till I feel it start to slip, let back out, and do it again and consider it broken in.

You do as you want, but the only clutch failure I have had was breaking straps on a cf/cf clutch.

I consisitently pull 1.6 60 foot times in both my mustang, and supra, so I don't think I have hurt them any.

Its kinda like them telling you how to break in your motor, so your ss rings will "seat"
