Bosch filter Shat on me today
Took the filter off the 92 and surprise......oil came flowing our everywhere, never had that happen before. Was using a Bosch

That is why you always punch a hole in the top of the filter prior to removing...allows the oil in the bottom down filter to drain out.

Oh man, at first I thought it came apart! Glad to hear that's not the case. I suppose if it were holding oil in, that's a good thing? Though why would it hold it when installed, then stop holding it when you unscrew it?
How long had the engine been sitting?
