Does the Hurst shifter do anything for positive stops, or is it simply a shorter rod as pictured in the eBay ad?

PS dollars to doughnuts that eBay seller is peddling knock-offs.

Cheers,
- Jeff

Jeff,

This is a trusted seller...

Many of us have purchased from him and the link is just giving an example of what he has.

It's my understanding that the ebay seller actually designed the product and Hib's article mentions him by name.

I purchased the shifter from Chris Rinehart, the engineer that designed it. It is the same shifter he's selling on ebay - just a little more affordable.

I have been curious what shifter options exist as it's class legal for me. I have not seen in person a Hurst for ZF-6. I still do not know the design style other than a posted eBay ad that shows a Hurst package pic but clearly states it was bulk ordered and does not come in Hurst packaging - IME when someone lists a discontinued product as bulk ordered and without packaging it sure sounds like repop to me. I have no real issue with repop as it serves the restoration markets well, but I do have a concern about reproduction content being sold as brand named merchandise.

If ever there was a trans that needs positive, adjustable stops it's the ZF-6. The shift forks in ours were undoubtedly bent long before we bought it. I have not looked into how the mechanism works to know if there is an opportunity for positive stops. Compared to the ZR-1 ZF-6 I'd consider the T-45 in my Cobra "disposable" and yet there are at least 4 choices for positive-stop shifters in the listed price range. I'm sure that many more standard SN-95 Mustangs were sold than ZF-6 Corvettes, but I'd think it is still is a pretty big market.

If the listed shifter is a shortened rod then I will think about it. I'm not sure I'm ready to ditch the reverse lockout with only a shortened rod as a benefit.

If the listed shifter incorporates positive stops, mark it sold.

If I've offended anyone, I apologize. I guess deep down I know what I sound like .

Best,
- Jeff

Thanks for the CaC link, Scott. At first I only saw the top of the listing with the setup that looks alot like the T-45, and the verbage "postitve stops most models".

Just got to look further down and it sure appears that the kit is the shorter rod /pivot move. Hib's reviews make perfect sense and if I were going for this style of update the Hurst would be the choice.

But for now I'll wish you good luck with the sale, while I ponder...
