Sadly I've seen this before back in England. There was a guy there a few years ago who mounted a british flag on his house. The city told him he had to take it down because it was 'racist'.
Presumably the people likely to be 'offended' (or their parents) choose to live in the US? Well part of living in a country is recognising that this is your new home, country and alliegance. If you don't accept that, then stay where you are. It doesn't matter what the country is - if you choose to live there then you should respect that culture. If you don't, why the hell would you want to move there? (and more to the point, why should that culture welcome you or tolerate you?). PC gone mad.
