Ok, Today I installed the driver’s side front shock servo. This cleared the SRS light. I am also somewhat baffled by the air deflector for #004. The whole deflector was a bit askew. I had previously removed and heat straightened the chin spoiler. I noticed the air deflector "wing" was missing. After looking at #074s assembly and my L98s I determined that an L98 wing would work. I found a used one on Ebay. Well I was wrong! It appears that the mounting brackets on #004 are entirely different from the L98 and #074 (see picture):
![]() #004 has a slight bend and three rivet mounting holes. #074 is straight with 2 rivet mouning holes. The used brakets have 2 mounting rivets. Last edited by 1989ZR1#74; 02-09-2010 at 05:51 PM. |

Eric, do you know what an 88 production car bracket would look like compared to the #004 89 prototype ZR1? Also, I wonder what it looks like compared to Tyler's car?

Is that a parts book for 88 or 89 production cars? Maybe there wasn't a production page for the 88 or 89 ZR1, even though it would make sense to have a book for the 89 in anticipation to the planned 89 ZR1 release.
Does the bracket on your #004 have a part number on it?

No part number that I can see. THe parts book is for up to 89 not including ZR-1. I was just showing that it appears that the 88 part is the same as the part I bought.
The more I look at this the more I am thinking there may never have been a "wing" on it. There is no evidence that the rivets were drilled out or broken off. The brackets look untouched. I have some preliminary engineering drawings but they do not show the wing. On the other hand I have seen the wing on other earlier then #074 cars and I think #016 has one. |

I have a 88/89 Prototype Program assembly document for ZR-1 sprcific parts and it does not list a ZR-1 only chin spoiler. The PAD shows the radiator assembly is a ZR-1 specific item, below that area everything would be production 88.

I think the change happened when the cooling pods changed, which my rusty brain thinks was in '90. The '86 cooling pods are hand laid fiberglass that were so "unique" that the underside of the hood reinforcements had to be cut out. A center airduct from a '90 might bolt right on, or the engineers might have just rigged it, knowing it was preproduction. I also think there was a different (deeper) spoiler for a Z51 car.
