I had Nitto 555r on my old 89.. they were 315s on 11" wheels, the nittos were a slight bit narrower then others but a good tire. They are more geared for street then the BFGs or others, but will stick and are not bad in rain either..

In regards to a GSD-3 like I have on my C5, well they always look a 1/2" or 1" bigger then other tires. Bottom line, I wanted a tire that could finally hook and I didn't feel like paying a $800-$1000 to match my front tires. $364 shipped for 2 tires. I'm probably getting my third set of rims next year and I'll get 4 new tires then. It's nice to have really expensive tires but in reality most of mine sit on a rim in a garage and to have $3,000+ grand just invested in tires for one car is kinda absurd. Especially when I have two other Vettes that need shoes too ![]() Haibeck suggested them and his car is in the 430 range. 2 other serious ZR-1 owners have also told me first hand I will love them. So if its narrow and traction vs fat and no traction, well you know what will win that competition ![]() Last edited by xlr8nflorida; 02-09-2010 at 11:47 AM. |

Stats on the 555R's from Nitto's site has the "overall width" ( their nomenclature not mine ) at 12.13"
From TireRack's site the GS-D3's have two listings: "Section Width" = 12.3"...is this = "overall width" at the Nitto site? "Tread Width" = 11.2" I wish all of these guys would just use the phrase "contact patch" as defined by either a linear measurement across the widest part of the contact patch or just say that the MFG says that unloaded the tires max tread width is X.X" ![]() The only thing I can add that would be some what intelligent is to say that the difference in the shoulder of the G/Yr's and the 555R's is very noticable. The G/Yr's is more squared off vs the 555R which has a very distinct curve to it. That may give the optical illusion that in an unloaded state the 555R is a bit narrower than the D3.... ![]() Anyway, I hope they hook good & look good on the car! ![]() fwiw, Discount Tire is out of D3's in 315 and TireRack has 8/ 315's left!

Well I took the tires off one at a time and got them mounted. It was dinner time when I was done so I still have not tested them out yet. They are slimmer then the GSCS and are narrower but all in all not too bad and they are nice looking tires for $364 for 2 of them. If they handle that is all I care about. From the back of the car they look plenty wide. |
