titanium fasteners
It just accured to me how heavy all the top end bolts are when you put them in a box. Thats all the bolts from plenum down to the cam cover bolts. These are the stock ones that i saved. It just dawn on me of how much weight i could save if i were to switch to all titanium bolts and nuts. After looking around i found this site www.mettec.com they specialized in such fasteners. They claim that their titanium bolts, nuts and screws are 47% lighter then steel and yield a ultimate tensile strength of 120,000 psi. Do you think it is worth switching. They do manufacture all different sizes and they are american made. Anyone have experience with such fasteners or put them on their motor?
thanks Shayne |

Re: titanium fasteners
I looked into doing this years ago, neat stuff but too much $$$$
I forget what the total weight savings was for the top end bolts but it was less than you might think.... I want to say 2-3lbs difference???

Ditto I guess all great minds think alike I was thinking of doing the whole motor i.e. alt,WP,front cover, oil pan,PS, ect. Anything and everything that does not effect safety. If i had a cash tree in my back yard i would've had them. Pete

Re: titanium fasteners
BOB,
You are right it is very expensive. After calculating the bolts and pricing them altogether..you would need to win a little lotto. Yes the are very nice fasteners though. Shayne |
