Re: Somebody got a deal!!!
Oh and for the hood.. yeah NEW is $1600, but I would buy a used one, Paint will be more then $1500, I would paint the whole car if/when the time comes
Some of us cannot afford the 18K (out of pocket) for a 18-19 yr old car. I was able to buy mine for a good price, I sold my 89 so i did okay. I also don't need all new parts, it it is in good condition used is good. y whole interior is used parts (except the Seat Leather) the Nice thing with my car, is it was not 100% original, so I can make it the way I want and not worry about it..

Re: Somebody got a deal!!!
I understand not wanting to come out of pocket $18k at one time. I also agree with making it the way you want it.
At the same time, If you include a used hood at $800 and a decent paint job which is easily $3,000-$6,000 then you have a decent amt of $ tied up in the car which is why I stated that other cars are better values in the long run. (If you have the funds) As long as you get a Z that is all that matters. In your situation it makes perfect sense why you chose the route you did. However, I often see people who have the $$$ but they try to get a steal. I'm not saying there are not steals out there, I'm simply saying for every steal out there, there are alot of deals where the cars are Roaches. Deciphering the Roaches from the good deals is not always easy unless you are familiar with cars and specifically ZR-1s. Statistically speaking, if you are uneducated you will get burned more times then most on Ebay. I trust about 10-20% cars on ebay. If you take the time to look at the photos, look at the alignment of the body panels and overall condition of the paint and interior, you can learn alot. Also if their "write up" is too over the top that is usually a tip off as well. This is of course is all my opinion and looking at ZR-1's on ebay for the past 10 years. That being said, I found a deal years ago on a 2nd ZR-1 on ebay. Guy had no reserve. I won it and he wouldn't sell it to me. It was $16,000 and change and it had about 50k miles on it. Of course this was about 3-4 years ago and the ZR-1 market was alot better then it is today. Quote:

Re: Somebody got a deal!!!
Yep, these cars are showing up more and more with wear on them, and its bringing the prices down on the really pampered ones. But it should be easy to tell the difference between them so...
