Hi everyone
Need to get some transmission fluid after changing the VSS. There's no BMW dealer in or near this town so I can't get hold of the Castrol 10w60. What's the next best bet until I can get some castrol? The manual states 5W-30 and I can get Mobil-1 in that grade. I saw in another post that you could use Penzoil Synchromesh and I might be able to find that. Any suggestions on what I can get until I can locate some BMW UberOil? thanks

I would say the GM stuff. Supposedly it is the same as Pennzoil Syncromesh, but I don't believe that's been firmly established?
I wouldn't use Mobil 1 I don't think. |

The local GM dealer doesn't know what engine oil goes in any GM cars. I gave them the part number for the oil and they still couldn't find it, the guy found a new number that supposedly replaced the old one but couldn't find any information on that number either and told me it didn't really matter as they sure didnt have any in anyway. The manual states SAE 5W-30, so I asked him if any think that met that rating would do and he said he didn't know and that maybe I should 'check on the internet'?!?!
No wonder GM is going bust... I found some of the Pennzoil stuff, I'm going to put that in, locate some Castrol then drain and replace as soon as I can.

Thanks for the replies. All done.
![]() It looks like I might be able to order the Castrol through a local supplier, so I will do that and change to the 'real stuff' as soon as possible.

Thanks for the offer kb - much appreciated. Would be long shipping up here in Canada and I think I can get it through a local dealer.
