Pics/info of the 1st completed LS9/'69 Camaro swap
If you haven't seen this already already, it was built by Mark Steilow, formerly a Manager at GM Hi-Performance group (he was recently moved into hybrids ). Car was just delivered to musclecar collector Charley Lillard, who prefers as much originality as possible even on a pro-touring car. The paint is a 1969 Camaro Daytona Yellow I believe.
First here's some quotes from Steilow: "We dynoed another LS9 with the same engine cal on an engine dyno and got these numbers. 4200 661.2 tq 529.0 hp 6300 585.5 tq 702.6 hp Working on JA today. Getting all the new car bugs sorted out. We shot it for a Hot Rod feature last weekend. Static shots and drifting shots. The LS9 is killer. On a 3rd gear stab it will ignite the tires. It idles at 650 RPM and make torque just off idle. The ride is good on the low profile ZR1 rubber even on crappy MI roads. Brake feel is very good with the ZR1 brakes. The twin disk ZR-1 clutch is butter smooth on launch and the system effort seems just right. Well after about 70 hours of thrashing on JA over the last 6 days I took it out to cruise Woodward Saturday and Sunday night. I put over 200 miles on it and it is a kick to drive. The LS9 is awesome. Great drivability. Idles at 650 rpm. The instant torque is crazy. A guy in a hopped up 5.0 Mustang jumped me from a 30 mph roll. Naturally I hit JA. Not used to the instant torque I blew to tires off and the Mustang got a jump on me. Once I gained traction I blew by him with a lot of authority. The noise and tire smoke show got me a big thumps up... I have about 100 miles on the car now and just sorting it out prior to Power Tour. "
