Timken pilot bearing - ZR-1 Net Registry Forums

Which end of the timken pilot bearing goes towards the front. The bearing has a large metal end with the bearing number on it. Should this end be toward the xmission? What is the result if the bearing is installed backward?

I've always understood that the "bearing style" weren't the preferred for replacement but the original "bronze bushing" style. The "ball-bearing" replacements are generally found in the truck & diesel applications where RPM's are substantially less. Not to say that a "ceramic" hi-speed might not be a good product for the chore BUT you didn't mention "ceramic"!

I'll be interested in "opinions"!

The "bushing's" given "noun name" today is bearing but it is indeed an old style "bushing"! A failed "ball bearing" if you had one would have resulted in the "input shaft" being "unstable" and could maybe have lead to the transmission mount flange problems?

I have ordered balance weights, should have flywheel balanced this week. Decided to rebuild xmission with new / old front case. Found a broken shifter sypport which explains my many missed shifts, new part is here. With luck I will be running b4 winter???? I hope in August. I hope the timken pilot bearing is in correctly?? I put the heavy end toward the xmission.

before you go too far you should contact the zfdoc bill boudreau . he is the best when it comes to our trans and clutch he is the best. i dont think mthe timken bearing is a good idea on our cars . jmho
