How about having the registration needing to be approved by a moderator?

As an FYI to everyone, we just noticed that one of the anti spam settings was not put back on when the forum came back up last time. Essentially all the settings had to be redone and this one slipped our attention. So now that it is back on we should see a decrease.

That is a good idea considering how much spam we have been getting lately.

Talking Re: Stopping the Junk

I'd go for anything more than we have now. It would be nice to see more information on who we are talking with, what they drive, where they're located... I can't imagine anyone having a problem with more requirements to sign up. I feel that would give this Forum a bit more validity than ... well you know.

I am glad to hear that the anti-spam setting may block some of the spammers.

I personally am not too upset by the spam as it has been pretty obvious. I do not think that a valid VIN should be necessary to join the NetRegistry Forum. I joined long before I actually bought a ZR-1.

I agree that we should encourage forum members to fill out their profile.

How about having the first post of a new member being approved by a moderator before it gets posted?

With so many accounts now having dynamic rather than static IP addresses, does blocking an IP really do any good?

With all of the spam recently, I like this idea. But the draw back is Z-Factor probably has a real life somewhere He probably doesn't relish the idea of screening all first timers. From what I understand the pay is pretty low for being a moderator All kidding aside, Z-Facor does an excellent job for all of us - Thank you

It may or may not be possible with the forum software, but what about having a prohibition period of say one to two weeks where a new member can't post or send IM. Perhaps not perfect, but how likely would a spammer wait for a week or two to send spam.

Just kind of thinking outloud.
