Default Phoenix Regional Meet

A good turnout and beautiful weather. I'll take pics, tomorrow. I have found a comfortable seat...

After all these years, can how many ZR-1s have received Top Flight Awards still be 'Top Secret, Burn Before Reading' level info to NCRS?
🤪

Mark: Thanks for the continued interest in NCRS ZR-1.

"Mystic" continued "how many" is as annoying now as it was when he began it years ago. He's never going to stop, but here's an answer that is as close as he or anyone else is going to get regarding "How Many ZR-1 Top Flights?"

First, a Top Flight can be awarded at any NCRS judging event. Top Flight isn't a very high bar. A McClellan (90-92) or Hill (93-96) Award is a much higher bar. It requires a minimum score of 97.0 at Regional, a Performance Verification, then a Nationals with again a minimum 97.0. Lots of Corvettes have received Top Flight Awards. Not nearly as many have received the top Concours award of Duntov, McLellan or Hill. ZR-1 that have received these top awards are more representative of a meaningful 'How many ZR-1 have...?"

The following numbers are from the 50th Anniversary Restorer and were current through Nationals 2024. The numbers are total for the model year, so they include non-ZR-1. HOWEVER: My observation has been that in 90-95, the VAST majority of these years presented for McClellan/Hill have been ZR-1. At least 75% or higher. In the numbers below, each McLellan/Hill is 2 of the Top Flights. (Example: For 1990: 38 of the 153 "Top Flights" are the 18 McLellan cars.)

1990 -- Top Flight: 153 -- McLellan: 19 (I know that 2 of these are "Festival" convertibles.)
1991 -- Top Flight: 95 -- McLellan: 14
1992 -- Top Flight: 47 -- McLellan: 3 (I know for fact that one of these is an LT1 Coupe)
1993 -- Top Flight: 122 -- Hill: 9 (A number of non ZR-1 "Rubies" have been presented.)
1994 -- Top Flight: 82 -- Hill: 8
1995 -- Top Flight: 144 -- Hill: 18 (The 95 ZR-1 is the holy grail for ZR-1. More Hills than any other year, but only 440 built makes sense.)
1996 -- Top Flight:160 -- Hill: 10 (No ZR-1 in 96, but the GS is heavily represented in NCRS. )

So. 643 90-95 Corvettes have received Top Flight. 71 have received McLellan or Hill, of which 75-85% have been ZR-1.

So Mystic, the answer to your question you will never find a closer guess to is:

Right about 53 to 60 C4 ZR-1 have been awarded McLellan or Hill Awards between 2005(when the 90-91 became eligible) and 2024.

Thanks for you response.
Please leave Marty out of this... 😀
He may also want to know how many ZR-1s
have received Top Flights, but, he is not the author
of this annoying question. I am!
NCRS could easily answer this question with a few
keystrokes. But they won't do it...
I guess the NCRS policy is still the same as the NCRS head
judge (or whatever his eminence is called) once arrogantly told me years ago "we don't give out that information"
I guess they're still trying to figure out how to charge for it?
OBTW: my car received a regional Top Flight with a score of 99.3 in 2009 so
I believe I have a right to know...

Mark corrected me. I apologize to Marty.

99.3 for a 19 year old Used Car is not a big deal. A 2009 Regional, I probably judged it. Look at your sheets. (EDIT: The 2009 Regional you probably attended was Marlborough in September so I Judged it for Operations.) Did you ever go further than that one-time judging?

"Top Flights" in C4-C6 are little more than Used Car Inspections. And with the current group of judges will almost certainly score the 97.0 or better. However, obtaining the Performance Verification required for the Concourse award IS a big deal, and to be commended.

"99.3" is jack ****. BFD. Pass the PV?, that deserves respect.
