We have to figure out a way to reconcile and sort of combine these two datasets into one site. We currently do not have a feasible solution but are working to figure it out. We welcome input from IT pros on this.

2) Preservation/backup of the the forum data, updating to the latest 'v Bulletin' software, and migration is simply A LOT of work. We are also looking at other forum software platforms not related to 'v Bulletin'. If any of you have solid examples of other forums, not necessarily car related, please show us!
Thank you Zack and all others. I am no longer a member after over 20 years and don?t have a dog in the fight. Best wishes and it?s good to hear there are some new and energetic talent to take the Registry to the next level.

Zack, I am active on three Corvette and two BMW forums and I find the best of them seems to be the Mid Engine Corvette forum, which shows this as its website supplier: MidEngineCorvetteForum.com Powered by vBulletin Version 6.0.8. I would recommend you contact John Elegant, the founder of the Mid Engine forum, about how he likes vBulletin. He also has a couple of apparently quite knowledgeable tech helpers who look after the website for the group (one is "Brad66" there). I am sure he would be glad to help; tell him Warp Ten sent you. He is just "John" on the website and if you need it I can get his email and phone. Another good site is Bimmerpost, which also uses vBulletin but I don't have contact info there. --Bob

PS It would be great if one could fix the problem of question marks showing up for punctuation on anything that comes into this site from another source (I just removed one from the MECF info above). One of my peeves. --Bob

Thanks for chiming in Bob. I would greatly appreciate it if you could get me Mid-Engine John's contact info.

Our forum here actually runs on vBulletin however it's Version 3 whereas Version 6 is the latest. We are looking into whether or not upgrading versions is the best option or going with a new software entirely. Bimmer post also runs vBulletin and is currently better than ours as well. Zach Miller is heading up the software research and I am helping. I will be passing all of this to him tonight.

I cannot explain why some have this glitch and others (like myself) do not. I will ask Zach Miller if he has time to polk around.

The issue with punctuation or apostrophes coming up as question marks was discussed years ago. If I recall it?s an issue with mobile browsers (editing in) and the version of vbulletin.
I know it?s an issue for iPhone on safari.

Here it is on punctuation:

Problem is I don?t want to disable auto-punctuation just so my posts look normal on this one and only forum that seems to have the problem for me.

It also happens when I copy something from another website using my desktop computer. But not a big deal, at least in comparison to the need for a general improvement and update to our existing website--vBulletin Version 3.08 as I recall--pretty old version.--Bob

It does it for me if I post via the TapaTalk app as well. As far as I know this is the only forum where I personally encounter the behavior.

In my experience it is generally (not always) better to be on a more recent version of whatever platform you're on if considering a platform move.

I've seen many times where you end up having to expend resources with an intermediate upgrade on the existing platform, just to get to a minimum version where migration to another platform is supported.

Do you work in IT by chance? Zach Miller is our board member heading up this project. He is a young IT professional but could likely use the help.
